The Diversey River Rock 'N Bowl in Chicago supports a unique type of community made up of people who have formed a bond with one another that crosses lines of age, race, gender, occupation, and lifestyle.
The documentary follows the Monday night crowd of bowlers through an exploration of their personal lives, their experiences at the bowling alley, and their views concerning the connection between bowling and life. As the film progresses a portrait of the overall scene takes form, combining the social aspects of a new generation of punk rock culture with an appreciation for the art of bowling.
The film aims to define what kind of social scene has developed here, why it has formed in a bowling alley, and what that means to the people involved in it. It also delves briefly into why the type of bonds formed in scenes like this one are necessary, and how bowling may be used as a metaphor for the way in which people communicate and connect with each other.
It is also a fun and exciting look at the youth of America, discovering them selves and finding a place where they fit in amongst modern society at large. From the ex-hippie, anti-establishment owner, from the tall buxom blond Texan bartender, to the girl next door and her all American boyfriend, from the pierced, tattooed, jaded youth of our time, this film captures their desires, expectations, disappointments and dreams all rolled into one crazy night of bowling.
