Monforte d'Alba - Auditorium Horszowski

Venerdì 27 giugno prende il via l'edizione 2008 di Monfortinjazz - evento musicale tra i più importanti del Piemonte, che si tiene nella cornice dell'Auditorium Horszowski, anfiteatro naturale sulla sommità di Monforte d'Alba – con il concerto per piano solo di Ludovico Einaudi. L'artista torinese, tra le figura di punta della musica contemporanea, è in tour ininterrotto da due anni nelle più importanti sale concertistiche del mondo, raccogliendo ovunque straordinari consensi.

La rassegna prosegue giovedì 3 luglio, con la serata An American Night, che vede protagonisti rispettivamente Ryan Bingham alle 21.30 e Joan As Police Woman alle 23.00: il primo, 25enne texano dalla voce roca di cui sentiremo parlare a lungo, reduce del grande successo dell'album di esordio Mescalito, è ora in tour con il suo gruppo dall'inconfondibile sound country rock americano. La seconda, Joan Wasser, è artista di culto poliedrica e collaboratrice di grandi del calibro di Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Elton John, Antony and the Johnsons. Con il suo gruppo presenterà in anteprima per l'Italia il nuovo album To Survive, in uscita a giugno.

Domenica 13 luglio, un gradito ritorno: Mario Biondi, questa volta accompagnato dal grande gruppo Duke Ensemble. Il nuovo tour, sulla scia del doppio album I love you more – Live, registrato al Teatro Smeraldo di Milano,ribadisce il successo dell'artista italiano fenomeno musicale del 2007.

Sabato 19 luglio è la volta di Wayne Shorter, universalmente riconosciuto come una leggenda vivente del jazz. Il sassofonista e compositore dell'Art Blackey's Jazz Messengers,del Miles Davis Quintet, nonchè fondatore dei Weather Report, si  esibisce con il suo straordinario e funambolico quartetto con Brian Blade alla batteria, John Patitucci al contrabbasso e Danilo Perez al pianoforte.

Protagonista della serata di domenica 27 luglio è Mavis Staples, leggenda del soul and gospel, già inconfondibile voce solista degli Staple Singers.

La sua carriera, che l'ha vista esibirsi con artisti come Bob Dylan,Prince, Janis Joplin, The Band, Santana, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, è sempre andata di pari passo con il suo attivismo per il movimento per i diritti civili al fianco del rev. M.Luther King. L'ultimo album, We'll never turn back, prodotto da Ry Cooder, è stato unanimemente acclamato come uno dei capolavori del 2007.

La rassegna Monfortinjazz si chiude sabato 2 agosto, con l'esibizione di Stefano Bollani & Enrico Rava, già ospiti separatamente nelle precedenti edizioni del festival. I due geniali artisti, sicuramente i più affermati jazzisti italiani a livello internazionale, si esibiscono questa volta insieme nell'ambito di un tour con poche e selezionate date. A conclusione della serata ,come tradizione,verrà offerto in degustazione il Barolo di Manforte, offerto dai produttori locali.

 Monfortinjazz ha alle spalle diverse edizioni: in oltre trent'anni di iniziative concertistiche, ha salutato le esibizioni di artisti del calibro di Francesco Guccini, Paolo Conte, Vinicio Capossela, Manhattan Transfer, Diana Krall, M.Horszowski e decine di jazzisti di fama internazionale.

Si può ragionevolmente considerare un appuntamento che, per qualità artistica, stile ed ambientazione, si colloca nel panorama delle più prestigiose manifestazioni musicali italiane. 

L'edizione 2007, con i suoi circa 4.500 spettatori, ha consolidato il successo di critica e di pubblico ottenuto nelle precedenti edizioni, attirando estimatori, oltre che dall'Italia, anche da diversi Paesi europei. 

La rassegna Monfortinjazz è organizzata dall'Associazione Culturale Monfortearte . E' una realtà costituita nel 1996, ma la cui attività culturale, artistica e di salvaguardia del centro storico di Monforte d'Alba risale al 1976. Ha lo scopo di diffondere l'interesse per le arti in tutte le loro espressioni, organizzando spettacoli teatrali e cinematografici, concerti, convegni ed incontri culturali sul territorio di Monforte d'Alba.

Monfortinjazz è un'iniziativa organizzata con il patrocinio di Regione Piemonte e Provincia di Cuneo, e con il contributo di Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, Ente Turismo Alba Bra Langhe Roero, Unione dei Comuni di Langa e del Barolo, Produttori vinicoli di Monforte.

The 2008 edition of Monfortinjazz will open on the 27th of June. This is one of the main musical events for the region of Piedmont, held in the the Horzowski Auditoriu, a mnatural amphitheatre overlooking the hill of Monforte d'Alba. The opening night will see, at the piano, Ludovico Einaudi in a solo concert: the artist from Turin, one of the main figures in    contemporary music, has been on tour all over the world for the past two years, collecting success after success.

The festival will continue on Thursday, the 3rd of July, with an evening titled An American Night. On stage from 9.30 pm, Ryan Bingham, who will then be followed, at 11pm,  by Joan As Police Woman. The opening act, a sandpaper-voiced Texan of 25 whom we will certainly keep talking about, is touring with his band after the great success of their first album, Mescalito. Theirs is a classic, unmistakable, American country-rock sound. Joan Wasser, the following artist, is by now a cult. Thanks to a versatile talent, she has had the opportunity to play alongside some of the greatest: Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Elton John, Antony and the Johnsons. Together with her band, she will introduce the Italian public, for the very first time, to her new album, To Survive, which will be released in June.

Sunday, the 13th of July, Mario Biondi will make his return, to much acclaim, this time accompanied by the Duke Ensemble. His new tour, which follows the release of the double album I love you more – Live, recorded in the Smeraldo Theatre of Milan, is reaffirming the promise made by this Italian revelation-of-the-year in 2007.

On Saturday, the 19th of July, it will be Wayne Shorter's turn. A universally recognized jazz legend, the sax player and composer of Art Balckey's Jazz Messengers, of the Miles Davis Quintet, not to mention founder of Weather Report, will perform with his extraordinary, acrobatically virtuoso quartet: Brian Blade at the drums, John Patitucci on base and Danilo Perez at the piano.

Sunday night, the 27th of July, will be dedicated to a living legend of soul and gospel, Mavin Staples, unforgettable solo voice of the Staple Singers. In her long career she has performed with such artists as Bob Dylan,Prince, Janis Joplin, The Band, Santana, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, while at the same time pursuing a passion for civil rights and activism next to the Reverend Martin Luther King. Her last album, We'll never turn back, produced by Ry Cooder, was critically acclaimed as one of the best works of 2007.

Monfortinjazz closes on the 2nd of August, Saturday, with the performance of Stefano Bollani & Enrico Rava, who have already been guests of the festival separately in the past. This time, the two brilliant artist, certainly the most well-known italian jazz musicians on the international scene, are booked for a small, refined tour, in duo. In accordance to a time-honored tradition, the concert will end with a tasting of our local wine, the rich Barolo of Monforte, offered by local wineries.

In more than 30 years of concerts, Monforteinjazz has welcomed Italian artists such as Francesco Guccini, Paolo Conte, Vinicio Capossela, international names like the Manhattan Transfer, Diana Krall, M. Horszowski, and dozens of world-known jazz musicians.

It's a matter of pride – but also a matter of reason -- to say that for artistic quality, style and environment, Monfortinjazz holds a rightful place among the most prestigious italian musical events.

The year 2007, with a public of about 4.500 people, has marked a turning point in the critical and popular success of the festival, which has for past few years attracted jazz lovers from all over the country and from other areas of Europe.

Monfortinjazz is organized by the Cultural Association "Monfortearte" -- officially born in 1996, this group has been operating in the cultural and artistic fields and also in the preservation of the old town centre since 1976. Their aim is to promote interest for the arts, in every form of expression, by organizing theatre shows, film projections, concerts, meetings and cultural events of all sorts in the area of Monforte d'Alba.
