Monica Giraldo didn’t realize the showcase she just had performed at the Billboard Latin Music Conference in Miami was a competition, until she won. “
After this great experience, Monica is back releasing her new album TODO DA VUELTAS, with 11 original songs and a sound she describes as “acoustic and contemporary”. Monica produced this record with Mauricio Pantoja, great guitarist with whom she has been working for years. Her music friends Diego Valdes in the Bass, Urian Sarmiento and Marco Vinicio Oyaga in the drums and percussion, Batanga in the Trumpet and Andrea de Francisco in Back Vocals, participated in this new album as well, and are the musicians with whom she has been developing her acoustic sound.
“ After minoring in music at Bogota’s Universidad de los Andes, Giraldo studied songwriting and performance at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. “Colombia is a country full of rhythms and cultural influences,” says Giraldo who plays guitar and percussion. “But Berklee offered the possibility of getting me in touch with popular music around the World.”
“You can make a statement with your music without being part of a Lable,” says Giraldo, who self released her two albums MUY CERCA 2005 / MONICA GIRALDO 2002, and was a winner of the annual Billboard World Song Contest with the song NO DEJO DE AMRTE. “But, you have to be active and you have to find the right team.” For Monica’s new album TODO DA VUELTAS this team is now Watt’s Up/Codiscos, whose goal is to develop Colombian acts with international potential.
