About me: I'm Monica Lanee' Jones, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I'm a Leo to the tenth power. Everything you've heard about us is true. Good and bad. But seriously, my first novel was released in May. The title is BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, which is appropriate in so many ways. I'm really excited because it's been a long time coming. This is the start of a new and improved chapter for me.
I've always loved to perform. Growing up I had so many hopes and dreams. After graduating from Bishop Borgess High School, I attended Oakland University where I graduated with a BA in Communications with a concentration in Theater. Howard University was my next stop where I was pursuing my MFA in Film and studied Drama. I was following my dream of becoming a writer/actress/filmmaker. I went home for what was going to be a brief hiatus. Without warning, my father died suddenly of a heart attack. My life was changed forever.
My dreams simply faded away.
I settled into a "normal" life, which is the worst thing that could happen to a person like me, because "normal" is tormenting, suffocating and boring as hell. I became a teacher, and went back to graduate school. I taught at Northern High School, Redford High School and reached the educational pinnacle teaching at CASS TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL-one of the best schools in the nation. DON'T HATE AND DON'T SLEEP!! Technicians are all over the place, and I'm proud to say that I played a part in getting some of them there. Although I had and still have mad love for my Technicians, happiness evaded me.
After years of restlessness, I decided to go back to my first love, the arts. As a result, I published my first novel this year. Check out my website at WWW.MONICALJONES.COM. I consider this my second wind. The stepping stone to bigger and better things to come. I can feel my spirit growing bigger and bigger. I'm having flashbacks of dreams of old, which have become dreams renewed. I'm currently writing the sequel to my first novel entitled, AFTER ALL IS SAID AND DONE. It will quickly be followed by what I call my Oprah Winfrey book entitled, GIVE ME BACK MY STUFF!! Don't be surprised when you see me on the show. I always do what I say I'll do. To GOD be the glory. I'm gonna win this fight yet.
Who I'd like to meet: These are just a few of the brothers who have been the inspiration for a few of my characters. Common, Harry J. Lennix, Brian White, Columbus Short, Tank, Daniel Sunjata, Xhibit, Lenny Kravitz, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, Laz Alonzo, Allen Payne and Mario Van Peebles. It's something about that man. What can I say, when I saw Posse I was turned out! LOL. Delroy Lindo is not only a brilliant actor, it's something sexy about his distinguished look and disposition. And Bernie Casey? Well when he walked out of the apartment building in that leather suit in "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" I was outdone. Even today with a full head of grey hair, he's still fine. Bernie Casey and Harry Belefonte are the only older brothers who would have a chance. Harry had me the first time I saw Carmen Jones about fifteen years ago. He's a class act all the way!!

A good woman is proud of herself. She respects herself and others. She is aware of who she is. She neither seeks definition from the person she is with, nor does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs. A good woman is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all her dreams come true. She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value and must be reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted, it soon disappears. A good woman has a dash of inspiration, a dabble of endurance. She knows that she will, at times, have to inspire others to reach the potential God gave them.
A good woman knows her past, understands her present and moves toward the future. A good woman knows God. She knows that with God the world is her playground, but without God she will just be played. A good woman does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experiences are merely lessons, meant to bring her closer to self knowledge and unconditional self love. Girl Smile.....YOU KNOW YOU HAVE IT GOING ON!
