Monica Soldan
Monica Soldan started her career as a DJ in 2000. Originally from Sao Paulo, she was the first ever downtempo DJ in Brazil.
She started as a hostess at Lov.e Club, quickly finding her way to the turntables. It was here where she started “Peace & Love Cocktails”, a project she built with DJs Marcelo Shida and Angelo Leuzzi (club boss); it is here that Monica started to gather her fan base.
A DJ of glamour (she started life as a model), Monica quickly became resident DJ at UMA Bar and began to develop enormous media coverage in the Brazilian music press for her “musical delights”.
Clubs & Lounges
Having worked in the fashion industry for some time, it was inevitable that Monica would play only the best VIP lounges at the largest and most exclusive fashion events in Brazil, including SP Fashion Week. Monica’s client list includes Ford Models, MTV, stylist and shoe designer Fernando Pires (who designs for Madonna) famous painters such as Romero Brito, top model Naomi Campbell, Globo TV, Nokia, Moet & Chandon, and Disco Club. In London, she has played at The Gherkin, the Apple Store (Regent Street), the Gumball Rally and at celebrity parties which have included Kevin Spacey and Tony Blair.
Gigs & Festivals
Monica was the headline act in transforming the electronic night at the Free Jazz Festival (Sao Paulo) and has also played at the Skol Beats Festival.
Other than staring at the infamous Brixton Academy, Monica’s first festival in London, the Antiworld Festival 070707, was one of her finest. She played with some of industries most notorious artists such as, Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys) and top DJ’s like Josh Wink and Thomas Schumacher.
Sponsors & Client Work
Before coming to London, Monica was snapped up by sponsors Puma and Audi and was invited, as a Soundscape Designer, by Hotel Unique to develop a concept for their Hotel and their exclusive roof top bar and restaurant, Skye Bar. Monica’s successful 5 year relationship with Hotel Unique is ongoing.
Monica also has an impressive client list from DJing on yachts in the Amazon River to opening a new retail concept on the island of Madeira (Portugal). She has also played for La Isla Vivo/Sirena Club on the private island of Mandala at Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, where she opened the decks for DJ Steve Lawler.
Music
Monica plays fast electric records and makes the headlines when she combines electro and minimal house with good techno. The music she plays ranges from strong Brazilian groove, through to the best deep house, minimal and techno. Her critics know her for a “beautiful, exciting and energetic set”.
Monica’s latest CD release Essencial is sold in over 26 countries and is sampled in many of Brazil’s top nightclubs and venues. It includes work from number one rock guitar artist Edgar Scandurras and is available to download from I-Tunes, Virgin digital and HMV in Japan. Monica has also developed sound tracks for film, theatre and fashion shows in Brazil.
Also she has done vocal and lyrics for Dan Berkson's latest track "Onika", which is being released in 2008.
