I have been in love with music all of my life. As a child, I listened intently and obsessively, studying and memorizing the lyrics to old, classic songs. My biggest problem at that time was that I was incredibly naïve and took the lyrics in songs way too literally. Subsequently, I was confused--a lot--and often asked questions like, “How was Pappa a rolling stone? Was he a man or a stone?” And, “can we ride on the dream weaver train?” because it sounded like fun. I didn’t relate well to metaphors, and I still don’t. (Similes however, are a different story.)
I started writing songs and playing piano as a very young girl. What spilled out of my mouth then, and now, with no surprise are literal statements that mirrored my life. (hmm, was that a metaphor?) I mean what I say, and I say a lot in my songs, which is not always easy to share. Music is like air to me, it allows to live, feel, move and express myself honestly and completely.
