As far as bands that have inluenced my guitar style... well, I'll just start rattling them off: Nirvana, Beck, Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Motley Crue, Soundgarden, The Cult, Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, U2, Jane's Addiction, Chili Peppers (John Fruciante), Hendrix, Pixies, Cure, Kaiser Chiefs, Sex Pistols, Weezer, Blondie, Bowie, Alice in Chains, Blur, Rage Against the Machine, and more.

The sound I’m after: A core of raw, gritty rock and roll, dressed up with some nice melodic hooks and psychedelic interludes. Nothing too complicated in terms of song structure- just a good verse, a good chorus with a good hook, and a cool way or two to get back and forth between them. I really like a simple framework that keeps returning to a familiar theme, and mixing it up by adding or subtracting different textures and layers. I prefer working with other songwriters. My favorite guitar parts that I’ve written are usually to a song idea that started with someone else.
I am a currently on a solo mission, but I’m looking to meet some other musicians in the Minneapolis area to start a new project. I have played in a handful of bands from about 1990 - 2005, before taking some time off to both finish school, and sort of discover exactly what "sound" I’m after as far as a songwriter. I play guitar, primarily, but I’ve also played drums and bass with a couple bands, and sang lead vocals in a 3 piece band called Sled. I uploaded a couple songs from Sled, a couple from Flux Box (with whom I played guitar), and a couple recent demos of my own stuff. It spans a decent range of styles, but I wanted to throw it out there to give anyone who’s also looking to hook up a band an idea of what I’ve done in the past and what I’ve been working on lately. Send me a message if you are at all interested in meeting up to discuss jamming. I miss it!
