Formed in 2005, Monkey Brigade are an energetic and highly entertaining all female dance troupe.
This duo are best known for successfully fusing diverse styles of dance performance. From West African dance to Hip- Hop, Burlesque to Break dance, Dancehall to Contemporary dance, their repertoire and performance style is unique and inspiring.
Both members teaches dance in and around Melbourne and together they perform regularly at events, private parties and festivals such as Hi-Fi Bar and Ballroom, Docklands, Federation Square, The Spanish Club and Stamping Ground Annual dance festival in NSW.
Their first full-length show ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’ debuted at the Northcote Town Hall as part of The Age 2006 Melbourne Fringe Festival. The show played to full houses every night and won the city of Darebin Performing Arts Award.
They performed as part of the afro-centric theatre experience Voodoo Vaudeville presented by Multi cultural Arts Victoria and in 2007 completed a successful season of their second independent show ‘Are you guys rap dancers?’
Monkey Brigade can provide dance performances from 5 – 20 minutes to suit a variety of themes and events. They also work with live percussionists, circus performers, comedians, and hip hop emcees & dj’s.
Cheeky, humorous, sassy and original, Monkey Brigade are guaranteed to get the party - and the dance floor - started!
