IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT MONOCLE, PLEASE EMAIL monocle@monocle-music.com.
Monocle is the brainchild of Danny Patterson and Christina Chatfield, two sound designers whose collaboration began in 2004 while attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where they studied Music Synthesis. What began as a collaboration for class blossomed into a full-fledged live PA and production team.
Monocle's debut release Dilleniidae (2007, Racecar Productions) was an immediate success, drawing praise and and raising eyebrows from high-profile corners. Shortly after its release, Dilleniidae appeared on several minimal download charts, climbing to number 2 on Dance Tracks Digital and securing a place in the top 40 on Juno Records. Other releases include Something to Say (2007, Racecar Productions) and a remix on Mossmoss' Eating Glass (2008, Nightlight Music).
Since then, the duo has relocated to San Francisco, taking the city by storm with their cutting edge, gear-heavy live sets. Monocle won praise for the amount of new material in each performance, quickly building a following among San Francisco techno fans. After being in the Bay Area for only a year, Monocle has been invited to play San Francisco's biggest techno parties, including appearances at [KONTROL] and Mighty where they've played alongside Cassy, Matthew Dear, Alland Byallo, and Nikola Baytala to name a few.
Monocle's tracks expose listeners to a diverse spectrum of beats, ranging anywhere from dark minimalist soundscapes to thoughtful analog melodies with a groove. In 2009, expect releases on SF's own Nightlight Music label and stay tuned for more to come from this dynamic duo.
