Mono'Kiri is the little sister of the clitpunkband Hara'Kiri.
Even though they have the same mother, it's not very obvious whether they come from the same father.
Probably not, as they are quite different. While Hara'Kiri is wild and full of energy, Mono'Kiri is calmer and subtler. Well, at least she pretends to be.
.
Wanna know more about the mother?.
Caroline Werbrouck got obsessed by music when her brother took her to a movie from 'The Who' at the age of eleven and never got rid of that obsession again. She used to write several years for a Belgian fanzine called 'RifRaf', doing interviews and writing reviews about punk rock and underground bands. But than she found out making music herself was much more fun so she decided to play the guitar and joined 'Not Yet', the clitpunkinvasion in 1998. Four years later she founded the punkrock band Hara'Kiri and released the album 'HaHaha'.
.
Buying a laptop and learning how to work with Cubase, led to her solo project Mono'Kiri! No punk this time, but no/new wave influences mixed with electro! In May/August 2006 Mono'Kiri re-recorded 13 songs at the Yellow Tape in Ghent with a little help from her friends Craig Ward (The Love Substitutes, I H8 Camera, dEUS,...), Dave Schroyen (Millionaire, Creature With The Atombrain,...) and Luc Waegeman (Needle & Pain Reaction, Starfighter,...) which was released October 30th by Kinky Star Records.
For live performances, Mono’Kiri is now a BAND! Together with Patrick Calvelo on guitar, Stoffel Hias on synths and bass and Jo Wetzels on drums (all from the great band COEM), she will hit the stage and abuse your senses! Live dates very soon!
.
Meeting Suspiria Franklyn from the Portugese band 'Les Baton Rouge', also led to the electro punk wave duo 'Suspicious', based in Berlin. With only a couple of months of existence, this band already played at several summer festivals and did several tours in Europe, with highlights in Madrid, Lisbon and Berlin and just finished a succesful tour at the American Eastcoast!
.
July 2009: The new album 'Carroussel' is nearly finished and the line-up of MonoKiri has slightly changed in the meantime. Guitarist Patrick Calvelo found out that he really wants to play the drums again, so Tom Sterkendries (and guess what, he's from COEM too) joined to take over the guitar. Carroussel will be released after the summer, so keep an eye on the agenda for new dates in the fall.
