-Monolith fan of many years Phil D'Archangelis, currently a High School History Teacher says it best, .. Horns up, Metalheads! .. Blazing out of the urban sprawl of Northern Virginia comes Monolith--"a single standing stone" or "an organized whole acting as a unified powerful or influential force"—a band that truly lives up to the character, drive, and dedication that its name demands. Music critics from both Metal Assault and Metal Rules Magazine have referred to the band as "an underground metal must-have," "extraordinarily talented," and all agree that its brand of heavy metal is beyond true definition or categorization. Monolith's newest release, "Four," is far beyond the metal norm. Incredible guitar riffs and picking patterns are backed by dominating percussion prowess and headed by socially-relevant lyrics. "Four" is exceptionally well composed and produced and possesses such a variety of metal elements that one must listen to it firsthand to truly understand its value. In live performances, the band manages to achieve a balance between musicianship and showmanship without ever being over the top. Monolith is able to walk this extremely difficult line in order to allow fans and fellow musicians to appreciate its music on multiple levels. The band is currently promoting the new release in a series of shows, PR appearances, and signings. The band formed in 1994 and released its first full-length, professional recording entitled "Have a Nice Day" in 1997 as a power trio of Eric and Brian Bayliss and Tim Artz. Two years later, "Use Only as Directed" changed their direction and sent them on an east-coast tour where they played for thousands of fans! "One Nation, Under Metal" followed in 2002 and further revolutionized the band's sound and vision. Monolith added guitarist, Aaron Smith, who later resigned in order to pursue his career as a professional tattoo artist. Guitarist Reece Scruggs was selected to fill the vacancy. The newest release, "Four," currently features Eric Bayliss on bass and lead vocals, Tim Artz and Reece Scruggs on dueling lead guitars, and Brian Bayliss on drums. The band's sound could be described as a blend of old-school thrash standards such as: Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, and Sepultura, but also mixes in elements of other genres of metal from bands like: God Forbid, Cannibal Corpse, and Lamb of God. Monolith's 16 years of experience includes four CD's, two tapes (remember those?), and well over 200,000 tracked (legal) downloads! They have shared a stage with numerous bands over the course of many hundreds of shows throughout the USA. As a MonoFan since the beginning, I can, without doubt, state that this band has remained a favorite over the years. They continue to amaze crowds with their high-energy shows, technical skills, and consistently produce material far beyond that of their peers. Recently, I saw them play a live show before a crowd of people who I thought had never heard of them…and by the second song, the whole crowd was involved! Possibly the greatest testament to the band: they have created, influenced, and inspired other musicians to take up the metal standard and carry it into battle! .. MONOLITH albums: .. .. Have A Nice Day! ('97), .. .. Use Only As Directed ('99), .. .. One Nation Under Metal ('02), .. .. Four ('10) .. .. A big bloody blender of Metallica, Sepultura, Pantera, Testament, Megadeth, WraithChild America, Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Rush, Overkill, and Slayer. Plus all the bands that sound like we did 10 years ago like Lamb of God, UnEarth, Trivium, All That Remains, Mastodon, God Forbid, Hatebreed, etc..We also pride ourselves on the massive number of metal covers we play from our biggest childhood influences. We love covering metal songs we grew up with from the bands that made our scene what it is today. Especially complex songs that other bands only dream of being able to play! With our 4 albums of material and our endless number of metal cover songs we have one of the biggest set lists available out of the entire millennium metal scene. Heavy Metal Finally Returns!!!
