mysterious sounds coming alive pulsing with magnetic beats sweating profusely gliding in dreams with new and wonderful fruits and cosmic touches of unearthly pleasures
Mono and Banana met in Lima, Peru in June 2008 when a series of synchronicities aligned their paths. Banana (from Montreal, Canada) was living temporarily in Lima and working with archives of indigenous music for her graduate research, and heard of the musical innovations of Mono through ethnomusicologist Efrain Rozas. Mono, a multi-instrumentalist involved in several different musical projects in Lima (including LA BANDA INCREIBLE , RADIOHUAYCO , SOMA) and had recently invented several new musical instruments, such as the Quipu De Luz, the Light Theremin, and the Magic Blanket. Banana, a singer and keyboardist, was involved in making glitchy psychedelic tribal music back home in Canada with her project FEAST OF SPIRITS, so she was instantly intrigued by Mono's capabilities and amazing style.
Soon after their initial meeting, Mono and Banana began jamming in Lima with Mono's experimental instrument arsenal and began creating a wonderful number of beautiful and bizarre excursions into the realm of electronic music. With Mono's wizardry and Banana's sweeping vocals, their new project, MONO Y BANANA, captures the imagination of the listeners and sweeps them into a surrealistic dreamworld of beautiful harmonies where one can ride on waves of colorful noise and suckle on the delightful nectar-sounds dripping from strange and wonderful trees. Mono and Banana consider themselves lucky to have met each other and to be able to make this music together. They realize they are part of a kind International Tribe of young musicians all over the world who are currently interested in the fusion between the Real, the Surreal, the Electronic and the Human. This inspiring new alliance across the geographic reaches of North and South America is likely to fuel future tours and musical releases.
The tracks you are currently listening to come from the initial fruitful period in the history of Mono y Banana. They call the recordings of sessions and shows from the June-August 2008 period 'The Axial Age' – paying homage to the pivotal period in history (800-200BC) when many trends in human philosophy and religion were established and propagated. Today, humanity is currently living in another kind of Axial Age, one where our own mechanistic paradigm of the universe is shifting towards a more wholistic and energetic vision of the Cosmos. This new perception of our planet is extremely powerful and uplifting, not to mention a catalyst for art and expression! Mono and Banana hope to meet other musicians with a similar vision of the world, inspiring the International Tribe to grow and flourish.
