Hey!!! I'm gonna' be in LA on the ninth. If you're not doin' anything you should organize a show for me and a couple friends. I would love you forever if ya' did.
Friday evening amidst, Richard Meier’s construction of concrete and steel buildings, surrounded by pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts; and 19th- and 20th-century American and European photographs, Everything from El Greco’s to William Eggelston’s, even Vincent Van Gogh’s “Irises, withered in comparison to Annalee Fery six months pregnant and glowing, the most beautiful thing of all, standing before an audience of hundreds. The finally of The Getty Center’s, "Fridays Off The 405" concert series. And what a delicious band they picked. The Monsters are Waiting, have been playing around LA for about the last 3 and a half years, I saw their humble beginnings at the Silverlake lounge, US tours, and their triumphant return from Europe were they wooed fans and critics alike with their melodic, mesmerizing almost hypnotic compositions, more like psalms, then songs. But never approaching what I call droning. These are real songs not free form jams. As can be heard on their 3 releases, the self titled, Monsters are Waiting, Fascination, and the new Ep “Ones and Zero’s” Annalee’s innocent yet, sensual vocals, forever grounding Andrew Clarks transfixing guitar and bass lines and backed by a balanced, unwavering percussion. Makes for a perfect merger of transfixing, awe-inspiring music. It may be a while till you see them live again, due to germinal, obstetric reasons. But until then wait pacing like expectant parents for the rebirth of a truly wonderful band. Until then we have the recorded music to hold us over. ~Malibu Mike Murphy
