Influences, of course, are of a transitory nature --- they float in and out of one's frame of vision continually, leaving residual traces that get blended into the cognitive soup.
Here's what we've been moved by most recently:
kerry & daev have vowed only to listen to music of 13th century percussive monks
duncan --- M. Ward, Sufjan Stevens, Alexi Murdoch;
jennie --- Little Boots, Vampire Weekend, Fantasies, Great Lake Swimmers
The Monster Show are the essence of ghosts — sounds of longing, of remorse; creaking door, whispers, bells. They are the plunking banjo (its bull’s-eye-with-arrow) and swirling keys, the big bodies of bass and drums stirred into simmering melody and snare-rattle. But The Monster Show heat up when the hollow guitar chimes. They boil up beneath our feet and overflow with smoke and song — blanketing us all in country, soul, funk, rock & roll.
January 2009 marked the release date for The Monster Show's first full-length Album, And In Our Final Days As Archipelago.
