View Montoj's EPK
Montoj is the new rock phenomenon that burst onto the Philly music scene in February of 2007... Montoj is a jamband at heart but wants to focus its style more on tight composition and progressions that lead somewhere and keep you on your feet, as opposed to extended periods of non-climactic jams. With the vast array of musical genres that they encompass its hard not to find something you like. Montoj always wants to keep the people entertained, the energy high and have fans wondering whats coming next!
Montoj is tight knit group of friends who attended the same highschool. After graduation, they lost touch for about a year while at different colleges. From 2003 to 2006, got back together and gained experience on the philly rock scene by playing in a local cover band called "The Olivieri's". With respect to their roots, band members Troy Taub (bass), Matt Olivieri (guitar), and his brother Gabe (drums), decided to break out of the cover scene, forming a brand new sound, writing and playing their own original music. Montoj has many influences, but is mostly inspired by bands like Sublime, Umphrey's McGee, 311, Phish, Yes, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. With recent acquisition of guitarist Lou Monaco, Montoj is pushing the limits of the status quo with interesting melodic progressions, beautiful guitar harmony interplay, and warm vocal blends.
The combination of Troy's lyrical and compositional abilities, along with the astounding riffs and vocal range of guitarist Matt, the two formed a writing duo thats pushing the norms and challenging the mainstream with its raw and in your face sound.
Montoj is currently in production of their premiere album expected to drop in December of 2008, but their fans have already fallen in love with their energetic live performances and their vast array of material.
When most people are asked about Montoj and their sound, it always comes out something like what band friend, Joe Trav said, "I'm not sure, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I like it."

The video for the song "Shake Shake" is done with a political twist with the 4 candidates for President and VP going into Club Risque and the plot unfolds from there. The live footage is shot from New Liberty's 21+ CD release party @ Risque Friday October 24.
