Dallas, Texas-based artist Montrose returns with his sophomore release, Inertia. The new album features eleven stunning tunes written and produced by the artist. The growth and maturity in Montrose's songwriting and musicianship can be found in each vibrant track. Released on his independent label Candlehouse Records, Inertia is the follow-up to the debut album "Invisible Milk," released in 1998.
Montrose began recording Inertia in late 2002. "I really wanted to take my time with this project,€? he said. €œI recorded with several different musicians and just like 'Milk' the project really took on a personality of its own. It's definitely worth the time it's taken."-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inertia has reached music lovers as far away as Japan, Australia and the U.K. It showcases Montrose's mature and developed songwriting, his cool vocals as well as his blissed out guitar playing. Inertia has a variety of textures and moods. From mellow psychedelic, P-Funk spaciness, and old school soul, it is all there.
The intro track "Eureka" is a stellar introduction to his strong songwriting talent and musicianship (yes, on several tracks he is a one man band), and muscular guitar work. "Deep Within" exhibits a knack for a catchy hook, strong melody, and Sly and the Family Stone like female vocals. "Never Be Mine" is a timeless rock and soul ballad and Montrose also delivers a stirring arrangement of Terrence Trent D'Arby's "Surrender" that moves from the ethereal to a guitar driven climax. The haunting song €œDown€? was used in a recent episode of The Discovery Channel special series €œUrban Explorers.€?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a performer, Montrose created a local buzz and loyal fan base, performing with his band as the opening act for the Dallas leg of the MP3 National Music Tour as well as a featured artist at the North Texas New Music Festival. His monthly acoustic performances are a popular draw at Standard and Pours Coffee, Dallas€™ premier singer/songwriter venue. He has also performed at the Hard Rock Café, The Dallas City Arts Festival and The Taste of Dallas, in addition to other venues in the Dallas and Houston area.
In June Montrose was featured in The Dallas Morning News€™ daily publication €œThe Quick€? as the band of the week. In March of 2000, Montrose graced the cover of the Houston Press music section when he and his band kicked off a four-day tour of Houston area venues.
From its reflective lyrics, smooth vocals and funk/rock/acoustic guitar, covering various moods and textures, Inertia is a combination of rock, soul and funk that doesn't disappoint. You will find that after several listens to Inertia, you have discovered a soul treasure in Montrose.
Montrose is a brilliant guitarist, great church member and a man I am proud to call my friend. This man eats, breathes and sleeps the guitar. He also loves his family, his pastor and The Lord...a great guy to know!
Thank you for inviting me to share creative space with you.
