   About Monty Casino

We appear on this compilation - out now

Also we play this soon.

Monty Casino are a 3-piece noisy-ish pop group with a political agenda. We are from Bradford (the jewel in the crown of West Yorkshire) and make music that we would like if we weren't in the band and that we think is original.

We've played with various bands, such as Los Campesinos!, Johnny Foreigner, Swound!, Slow Club, Shut Your Eyes and You'll Burst Into Flames, Das Wanderlust, That Fucking Tank, Duels, Buen Chico, The Ape Drape Escape and Sky Larkin.

We have also been played on various radio stations including Radio 1, BCB, RTE 2 in Ireland and Resonance FM.

Here Are Some Nice Things People Have Said About Us On Record (or CD)

"Absolutely Brilliant" - Huw Stephens, Radio 1

DEMO OF THE WEEK in ORGAN - "Ha, what do we have here? A band who fall (downstairs) somewhere between Art Brut and Don Caballero! (well maybe a frantic manic Don Cab?) “Hello Organ, we’re a Bradford based three piece. Someone suggested you’d like our music so here we are!” Damn right! Whoever that was, we thank you (are we really that predictable!?). I could have been a great leader but social circumstances crushed me – only I shall know the truth. Falling upstairs rather than downstairs, never trust an escalator, those moving staircases must be the work of the devil. Ah yes, more “wrong pop”, more wanderlust, made by ordinary men who maybe could crush you in the palms of their hands – ah yes, stop start repetition. Positive staccato pointy repetition and four fine tracks – is she falling up or down the stairs? Who is Gorbachev? I am Gorbachev... and they’re all scratchy frantic guitars and Northern voices so it maybe a little silly to say they make me think of Servotron – maybe it’s the frantic insect scuttling, that and the Antarctic Monkeyness – ah yes, we like lots, get me to the radio station right now, I have more new music to play you"

“Lots of lovely different words come into my mind when I think of Monty Casino. But to list them all wouldn’t be doing justice to the sound this band creates…they are chaotic, different and impossible to nail down… In short, a veritable kit bag of difference, a dressing up box full of ingenuity and creativity.” – Rob Taylor, mono

"Excellent stuff" - Simon Ashberry, Bradford Beat, BCB 96.7 FM

"Wonderfully DIY and ever so eloquent" - Joel White, 2Much2Young

Here Are Some Nice Things People Have Said About Us Playing Live

"Stunning Experimentalism...Acerbic, Abrasive; Throbbing Gristle in a Fall-fight with Art Brut, in a casino, naturally. With Bells and Theremins on. The World demands odes to the non-glamour of getting old and the existential turmoil of Gorbachev" - mono

"so ironic, surreal and arty that it would make Art Brut want to hang up their winkle pickers and work in Asda" - Sandman Magazine

"Regular readers of mono should probably realise we flippin’ love Monty Casino and this opening performance is one of the best that we’ve seen. The guitars are biting, funk bass dangerously low, Jeds count-ins and backing as mad as ever, while Patrick adlibs their already hilarious lyrics with gems like “I’m wearing shorts and a vest, I’m getting cold!” With their history lessons packed into political punk-funk classics, akin to Gang of Four and the Minutemen, via the experimental pop of the Fall and Art Brut, Monty Casino start the day off with the audience both educated and in hysterics. Ace.” - Adam Simons, mono (on our performance at the Woollen Wig Out Festival)

'monty casino are captivating to the point of a trance... mixing noise, melody and irony into a molotov cocktail of explosive genius. They don't give a shit about genre, normality or poetry and thats why you should definitely give a shit about them.' - Joel, Legendary Bradford Band Spodni Pradlo

"Bradford DIY Popsters are a surprising gem of an act, truly shambolic, energetic and naive enough to be unique... Noisy choppy guitars clatter with unpredictable percussive patterns and distinctly odd bass runs...Pop Nugget Getting old sealed the act that this reviewer was facing a generation gap, however I can't help but smile at the blunt slack-rap delivery of it's quirky lyrics." - mono

"The world of Monty Casino is defiant and interesting" - Sandman Magazine

Hey

We're about to record a new EP but can't decide which songs to put on it. To avoid any more 'heated debates' we've decided to let the good people of the internet decide.

If you've got a spare few minutes, please head over to http://www.naomihateshumans.com - have a listen to the songs and rate them. We promise to stand by the opinions of the interweb. Even if you are wrong.

Thanks

Naomi & The Fucks.

Slack and scuzzy as hell Wonderswan are one of the best bands in Leeds right now. They sound like Yo La Tengo, Sebadoh and My Bloody Valentine and have played with the likes of No Age and Mae Shi!

Dec 10 2008 12:10 PM

Friday 19th December

Wrath confined to wide frames presents

BEARDS

Leeds 6 has been pumping out quirky DIY bands since Henry Rollins was in short shorts. Beards proficiently surf the skronk-wave generated by this legacy of ace independent exploratory noise-rock with homemade costumes, The Fall, Liquid Liquid, ESG, Slits style angular pop tunes, Dicko-tastic guitaring and a super rhythm section that will make you mess yourself.
http://www. myspace. com/beards2000

CISSY

A polyrythmic afrobeat four piece having emerged from a heavy stew of LS6 bands including Kito, The Dragon Rapide and Tigers! Cissy’s post-punk takes them in the direction of accomplished funk and jazz ala The Meters, Fela Kuti, Heroic Doses or Tortoise. Members of his fan-base should take note that Cissy’s appearance on the bill ensures a double Dicko outing.
http://www. myspace. com/cissysound

NOPE

Second outing for chaps of That Fucking Tank and Mucky Sailor playing Krautlike repato-rock. Expect one riff evolving over the course of 20 or so minutes, but upbeat and fun.ish. Like a more metally Neu!, Stereolab and Spacemen 3 apparently.

DJs are Screech off of the LONG BLONDES and Steve out of MUCKY SAILOR spinning tunes until your party-sick.

At The Countess of Rosse, Bingley Rd, Saltaire.

FREE ENTRY! (Donations for Petrol graciously accepted)
8pm start (bands finish in time for last train back to Leeds)

The Countess of Rosse is five minutes walk from Saltaire Train station up Victoria rd, right on Bingley rd and next to the Shell garage.

Sunday Funday presents Peace Drum @ Love Apple BFD

Sep 29 2008 1:23 PM

Sunday Funday is the not-for-profit inaugural post-clubbing chill-out monthly sunday evening event mixing live acts, DJs, dance, spoken word and circus in a student-friendly Bradford arty city centre venue. Translocating the summer festival vibe into the Love Apple Café Bar (near the Alhambra Theatre - see the map on our MySpace), action packed with all the fun of the fair, Sunday Funday is a great excuse to ditch the crap sunday night telly, and party with no stress. Open-minded, multi-cultural, multi-genre, you'll hear just about anything at our gigs. Whether it's funk, punk, reggae, hip hop, house, techno, dub, breaks, meaningful accoustic sets, or bitesized chunks of world music, we're down with all chilled-out vibes.

To reduce our carbon footprint, we showcase local acts as possible, giving maximum exposure to the stars of tomorrow, in conjunction with Fresh Milk (the Wild West Yorkshire music facilitators), we're helping new artists gain grass roots exposure. On the Sunday October the 5th bill, there's Freyed Knot headlining, plus Divine Shakras, Harris, DJ Shi'me, DJ Immi, Flloyd de Sousa, Meats, and many, many more. This time there's breakdance crew the Soul Monkeys, and future performances will include belly dance and burlesque, and live performance art. Entry is always a mere £3, with beer/lager/real ale at £2 a pint, and fresh veggie and meat hot dogs to keep thirst and hunger under check. There's no dress code, fancy dress optional but welcome.

We're not funded or sponsored in any way, and rely on the kindness and generosity of our able volunteers, so if you want Sunday Funday to suceed, show your support by turning up at the Love Apple carnival between 5 and 11pm and having one hell of a good time. Turn up, tune in, and chill!!!

Peace 'n' Love Apples,

Sunday Funday Crew

Big party noise at Bradford 1in12 on the 6th September.
Blakfish-

Tight as fuck. From twiddles to chugs, breakdowns to beatdowns. Guttural screams morph into BIG, BIG choruses. Will officially be amazing.
Rocksound just did a feature on them and these guys said-

‘Brilliant’
NME

‘For fans of Converge, Spy vs. Spy, Mogwai, Fugazi and At the Drive In, this is the sound of intelligent intensity with serious musicianship and a unique party vibe’
Salvo

Tubelord-

A chance to finally see this bloody brilliant band, after they didn’t make it to Bradford music week.
Chuck Fall of Troy, Biffy Clyro and some hot falsetto together - you might start seeing something vaguely like Tubelord.

Drowned in Sound is big on them, This is fake DIY put them in their ‘Class of 2008’ and Radio 1 is doing a session this Wednesday.

Swound!

Nottingham (and Huw Steven's) favourite post-punk party band.
woop.

And to kick things off-
hey! Panda-

Halifax’s greatest Disco noise.

The one and only T and A said-‘ An eclectic mix of shambolic wig-outs and high tempo beats was how you would imagine The Fall to sound following a date with The Rapture.’

Hosted by the cuddly anarchist palace that is 1in12 club, 5 mins from the interchange, best beer in bradford.
Bands will finish in time for last train back to leeds.
Djs will go on as long as we keep dancing.
(4am?!)
sexy.
