Sounds Like
Fugazi + Sunny Day + Hum + Cave In = Monument to No One
"Monument to No One offers a piercing, psychedelic space rock counterbalanced with ambient mysticism and gritty grunge chops." - www.austin.com The band formed in 2006.
Eli
Eli is from Pittsburgh, PA, where he played in a band called Evilsnake, which was fronted by a renegade Honduran. He eventually went back to Honduras and staged an ill-conceived revolution attempt, but that is another story. Before that, Eli played in a punk rock cover band called Pork Butt. They called it quits when the singer, Ben Mikalauskas, was grounded for life. It had something to do with being a Nazi, I think. Eli played guitar and sometimes sang with the Lurps, who were most notable for the wild antics of Brian (aka King Bribo, naked Brian, Curvy Bender) Short.
Dan
Dan taught himself to play drums in the grunge era by turning on the radio as loud as he could and jam along. Most notable were Pearl Jam Ten and Vs., Nirvana Bleach, Incesticide, Nevermind, STP Core. Dan began drumming at 13 in a band from Fairfield, CT. The only performance was at The Beanery - and Chris Frantz (drummer for Talking Heads) was in attendance to see how awful Dan was at his first gig ever. Dan has his musical roots in Houston, TX, as a member of Primal Urge (regretfully), Optimus Prime, and Axis Down. Dan moved to New Orleans and became part of World Leader Pretend. After Dan left the band, he joined forces with Sleep Dep for 2 years and then reconnected with Axis Down. Meanwhile in NOLA Dan, was also playing drums in Mumpsie - who has now relocated to Austin, TX. Dan manages a country band to make ends meet.
Steve
After growing up heavily influenced by the mid to late-90's Dallas rock scene, Steve cut his musical teeth playing in and around Austin for 7 years in unnoticed kick-ass space rock bands Pedal and Aphid, both of which received glimmerings of local press just before breaking up. Steve met Eli on Craigslist and immediately recognized a fertile sonic kinship that could be easily grown into a fully realized rock force. Being slightly frustrated with playing guitar alone in his basement, he joined the group in late '07 after some not insignificant begging and psycho-fan "love-knife" behavior on his part.
Mike
Mike is the newest member of the band. His shoes match his bass strap. Mike hails from Hot Springs, Arkansas. He started playing guitar when he was 13, but when White Lion's "When the Children Cry" proved too complex for his fat fingers, moved on to bass. Rapidly mastering Gn'R's live from Japan version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", he found favor with junior high metal heads and was soon on his path to deafness. Developing his style during the height of the Central Arkansas punk rock renaissance in the early 90s, he spent time with a plethora of bands that lasted one weekend or one show, whichever came first. After graduating college in '97, he moved back to Arkansas to join lifelong friend Nathan Ritter in the pop-prog band Peanut Gallery. After the rock opera Jesse From the Future broke up the band in 2001, he was involved in numerous collaborative projects, including The Feldmans, The Jogger, Kenny Rogers II, and most recently the Wallpaper Thieves during a brief stint of unemployment in Chapel Hill. He's also played with dirty Austin rockers The People vs DelaRosa and can be heard on the band's current demo.
