Robert Moog, PhD passed away in 2005, at the age of 71.

The Revolutionary Moog Synthesizer

The electronic musical instruments Dr. Bob Moog first created in the 1960s changed music in ways never before imagined. He developed a new class of keyboard-based instruments and was the first to apply the term "synthesizer" to this new creation. Dr. Moog took experimental technology to the next step by not only creating instruments but by putting it into the hands of performing musicians. The musical expression that ensued created amazing and ethereal sounds the world had never heard before.

Music, the world over, has never been the same since. Musicians have been using Dr. Moog’s synthesizers to create compelling and innovative music that has been expanding the minds of listeners for over forty years.

There were pioneers before Dr. Moog, and many others expanded on his work, but all modern electronic music owes a debt to Dr. Moog and his legacy. Even today, the music software on your computer makes use of the principles that Dr. Moog developed. Many digital musical instruments emulate the sounds that Moog analog synthesizers first made in the 1960s and 70s.

The Bob Moog Memorial Foundation Needs You

Bob Moog was an educator, engineer, innovator and craftsman. He never stopped contributing. The Bob Moog Foundation was created by his family, friends and colleagues to preserve his legacy and continue his work. The mission of the foundation is to support and honor Bob’s legacy through celebrating, teaching and documenting innovative thinking in electronic music.

We are working to:

  • preserve Bob's records and research
  • create museum exhibits on innovations in electronic music
  • endow scholarships at major colleges and universities where Bob worked and taught
  • sponsor music concerts and competitions
  • support music education outreach programs, especially for disadvantaged children in the United States

The work of the Bob Moog Foundation depends upon donations from people like you, all over the world. Be more than a listener. Participate. Make a donation and help us make waves. Sign up for our email list at http://moogfoundation.org, and help keep the legacy alive. Every donation counts.

The Bob Moog Memorial Foundation is a 501c 3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina. Your donations are tax-deductable under the laws of the United States of America.

Moog Music, Inc., which builds musical instruments that carry the Moog name, is not affiliated with the Bob Moog Foundation. However, we remain good friends and strongly support the tradition they continue.
