Mookie Jones was inspired to rap when he was in the presence of legendary rapper Big Daddy Kane in a recording studio rapping. Oran "Mookie" Jones II son of legendary Def Jam R&B artist Oran "Juice" Jones. Years later, at age 15 Mookie entered his first major rap competition. He won first place in The 2003 National "Roc tha Mic" competition sponsored by Roc-A-Fella records. Performing on the same stage that Hip-Hop Rap Star "50 Cent" had just rocked only minutes before Mookie mounted the stage, and knowing that another Hip-Hop Rap Star "Jay-Z", was to come up right after him.The following year (2004) Mookie won first place in the Source Battle in Houston Texas where he is the new H'town's Freestyle Champ The PRINCE is what he call himself . SCION PROSPECT PRESS RELEASE Upcoming Houston rapper Mookie Jones recently took home the title of Scion’s ‘The Prospect’ winner, standing out among the over 1500 submissions submitted online for the competition.

As part of the competition, a group of 10 finalists were each given a track from producer and judge Hi-Tek and assigned the task of providing a concept and lyrics to Hi-Tek’s track.

Chosen was by an elite group of judges including Hi-Tek, Lenny S. (VP of A&R Def Jam/Roc-A-Fella) and Ryan Ford (Executive Editor, The Source).

The purpose of Scion’s competition was to provide support for an independent artist with a fully funded marketing campaign, to push the winner into the national spotlight.

“Scion creates competitions like ‘The Prospect’ to provide up-and-coming artists career building experiences,” said Jeri Yoshizu, Scion’s sales promotion manager. “We hope that the creation of a track with Hi-Tek and the making of a music video will provide some new opportunities for this promising young talent.”

Mookie Jones, son of pioneering Hip-Hop/R&B singer Oran "Juice" Jones, is no stranger to competition.

He entered his first rap battle at the age of 15 and he has one first place in both the Roc Tha Mic competition and the Source Battle.

Jones’ coveted prize package consists of a $75,000 marketing deal that will include a song produced by Hi-Tek, a video shoot produced by Scion and several other prizes.

"Being involved was an incredible experience, and to actually win is priceless,” Jones said in a statement.
