Moon Hop was founded in 96. Its influences were bands such as Kortatu, The Specials, Madness, Prince Buster, Byron Lee and the Dragonnaires as well as great standars by Derrick Morgan from which the name of the band was taken.
As early as 1998, Moon Hop's music started to evolve as some members left the band and others joined it. Moon Hop matured and gradually found its own identity as far as sound and stage performance were concerned.
Moon Hop music is a "sixties inspired" ska played in our own way: a modern sound, a faster tempo than original ska mixed with many other musics played during that period such as surf, mambo, rythm and blues, rocksteady, soul, calypso or boogaloo.
After some singles were produced on compilations such as "Frenchy Ska Reggae Party", Moon Hop shifted gear and made the first album "Rockets to new heights" in october 2002. Two tracks were remixed: one by "Yves La Fouine" (sound engineer of the famous French dub band Improvisator Dub) with the help of Chinoi (a sound engineer who worked with the world famous Mano Negra), the other by King Scratch Eddy Da Costa Freitas (ASPO, Rageous Gratoons, Hurlements d'L..o).
The two following years were devoted to promoting the record (tours in France and Europe) and preparing the new album.
The latter was recorded at Studio Berduquet (Cenac-France). The mix and master were performed by Eddy Da Costa and Alexis Bardinet (Globe Audio).
Produced by Patate Records (ASPO, Jim Murple Memorial, Western Special), "Welcome Back to the Moon" was released in February 2006.
We're on the road again.
Salut,
