Music has always been in the Kim household. For Moon Hui, even before she was born. According to my mom, she always listened to classical music, especially the piano music of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Lizst, etc., while I was in her belly, because she wanted me to become a concert pianist, describes Moon Hui of her mothers dreams for her. So at the tender age of 8, she started taking piano lessons and had taken lessons all the way into her senior year of college. While in elementary school, she decided that she would try to play the flute and played that for about 7 years. Even while she was musically active, it was never something she thought about doing for her future. I always thought Id become some sort of teachermaybe a high school English teacher or something. I was absolutely terrified to perform anything in front of others, so music was something that I felt was impossible to pursue. Still, there was a passion in her that could not be contained.
Moon Hui sang a little here and there at church, singing in the choirs and also some solos on special occasions, but it wasnt until her junior year of high school that something clicked in her, regarding singing. My friend, Gina, pretty much made me go to the choir audition at my high school, second semester of my junior year. I went to a music magnet so there were a lot of opportunities to try new and different things. To make a long story short, I got in and she didnt. I wasnt sure if I wanted to pursue it, since I was dragged into going, but I never quit anything beforeso I just stuck with it. It was during those choir classes where she started to realize how much she really loved to sing. My friends would ask me to sing for themso every once in awhile, if I could muster up enough courage, I would sing a little for them. One day, Gina had a kooky idea, Why dont you become a Contemporary Christian singer? I thought it was a horrible idea! I absolutely could not sing in front of others seriously, maybe for fun! But somehow, this idea started to form into a dream and my desire to accomplish this dream has been growing until now.
Her dream is starting to become a concrete realization. Shes spent the last 6 years writing material, working on her voice, learning to arrange, learning to play different instrumentsand through it all, there is just one goal she would like to achieve, I really wanna do this to honor God. Every season, I grow closer and closer to God and Ive come to understand that there is nothing on earth more important than God. He is everything to me. I couldnt possibly have anything to sing about without Him. He has given me abilities to use and opportunities to be used for His glory and I wanna spend every last moment on earth praising the wonder that is God. He gives me a reason to be!
