Born in the Dutch village Steenwijk as the daughter of a popmusician, Moon Baker soon found her way and working-area in Amsterdam. She was a member of the funk-hiphop-soul group U-Gene & O-Jay between 1998 en 2000. The last couple of years she was leadsinger for Candy Dulfers Funky Stuff (as successor of Trijntje Oosterhuis). With Funky Stuff, Moon Baker performed in Europe and even in Japan. At the renowned North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005 she sparkled in shows with Sheila E, Chance Howard and John Blackwell (both Prince bandmembers). She couldn’t have wished for a better environment to experience the professional industry in the Netherlands.
Over the years Moon Baker worked on an excellent live-reputation. She shared the stage with some of the biggest names of both at home and abroad. For example the New Cool Collective Bigband, Tower of Power and Sandra St. Victor. In addition, Moon did a duet with Dave Stewart and she was a guestperformer at the George Clinton gigs in Paradiso (the Netherlands).
But now, the time has come for Monique Bakker to prove her talent as a solo artist. Her first solo-album, called 'ABC of Romance', will be released in May.
The music on her debut is a mixture of soul, jazz, rhythm & blues with a hint of hiphop. Ballads, swinging funky tracks and warm soul alternate each other. The mixture of these styles is a result of the close collaboration between Moon Baker and the internationally respected hiphopproducer Nicolay. Other collaborators are Candy Dulfer (with solos on titletrack 'ABC of Romance' and the powerful 'God's Lonely Crusade'), rapper Pete Philly, Alain Clark and Ivar Vermeulen.

Moon Baker goes back to the sixties with ‘Shot Deep’
On Friday February 22th, Moon Baker will surprise with a brand-new single/video clip of ‘Shot Deep’ from the album ‘ABC of Romances’. The video has been directed and shot by Darren Carter. To celebrate Moon Baker’s first video clip of her debut album it will be a Myspace exlusive for the first week! ‘Shot Deep’ has a sixties look and is based on the old British serie ‘The Avengers’. The Avengers was a series featuring a couple of secret agents in the United Kingdom.
“I loved the charisma and interaction between Emma Peel and John Steed,” Moon Baker said. “I was in a brainstorm session for a suitable video concept and the series ‘The Avengers’ came spontaneously across my mind.” The final result is staggeringly, splendid sketches, choreography and action pictures in which you will be dragged by the number.
If it isn’t enough we also decided to give-away a funky Boogaloo remix of the track ‘Shot Deep’ remixed by Ro Krom. You know Ro Krom from the dance complication album ‘The Fatty Boom Project’ out now!
Make sure you keep an eye on the Myspace and official website of Moon Baker for further information!

Moon joins George Clinton on stage
Moon Baker frontwoman Moon and P-Funker George Clinton are no strangers. When the icon visited the Netherlands in 2004/2005, he invited Moon as a guestperformer.
Last Sunday George Clinton was a headliner at the Hilversum Alive festival. To arrange for a musical meeting proved to be a bit more complicated this time. The offer made by Moon only reached the Grandmaster himself 1 hour before the show. He immediately and enthousiastically gave the go-ahead and after some big hugs and kind words they started jamming. A small video can be found on the Supertracks Youtube channel.
