| Influences | started out absorbing the Cure from their early 80's goth period. the Smiths, Depeche, New Order/Joy Division etc... then Kraftwerk and other more obscure artists like Xymox - my favorite band for a while....
then guitars ruled for a few years and the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Sponge, Dig and countless others got me through the early 90's. the beautifully dreary drones of bands like My Bloody Valentine hypnotized me. when The Bends came out, i knew i found a very special band. Radiohead's atmospherics was it for me, peaking with Kid A. Filter, GusGus, Garbage, Hooverphonic, Sneaker Pimps and Vast carried me through the end of the decade. Downtempo/Ambient has always drawn me in. Soma Sonic, Bowery Electric, Telefuzz, American Analog Set...
in 1999, i came across IDM and it's spinoff genres. artists like Sense, Lackluster (hi Esa!), Sensorama, Boards of Canada and later Casino vs. Japan, Ulrich Schnauss, Ruxpin, Proem, Blamstrain, ünn, and dozens more, blurring the line between electronics/downtempo dreaminess and different genres. labels like Electrolux/Mikrolux and City Centre Offices(Germany), Defocus(England), Wobblyhead(USA) Thule(Iceland), Merck(USA) and more of course, had me scouring the Village and eBay for the past 7 years for everything they produced. sad about Merck folding soon, and Neo Ouija! but new labels like Sending Orbs surface and give me hope for our future influx. i must mention Oliver Lieb/LSG here. any fan of electronic music not familiar with his work is seriously missing out. now my time is spent more creating than buying/listening but everything happens in cycles...
IDM stands for Intelligent Dance Music though it's only intelligent sometimes and mostly not danceable, but the moniker has stuck. my sound really cannot be clumsily labeled specifically this or that but IDM fans might like my abstract tones and moods.
outside of music and photography - i'm a 'zine freak, ingesting a steady influx of gear (music and camera), art/design/architecture and the future (Wired and tech stuff. geek chic, what can i say?)
William Gibson, Neil Stephenson, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick and Jonathan Carroll are among my favorite authors though there's too many to mention.
Movies - Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Waking Life, Hackers, Blade Runner, 12 Monkeys, Barbarella, Clockwork Orange, Minority Report, AI, Tron, The Island, Run Lola Run, 2001 a Space Odyssey, a Fish Called Wanda blahblah... if you're looking for trippy visuals combined with excellent music for your HD/home theater setup - check out Moonshine Movies' Transambient series
my Xbox Live 360 addiction doesn't help my productivity much but is a necessary evil. especially in HD.
love the fact that we are from the stuff of stars. i'm drawn to deep space and it's inverse - inner space and the micro bits of life that inhabit our world. i feel connected to the cosmos. maybe you can see that in my photography and hear it if you listen closely to my music.
