About me:

My paintings are about capturing aspects of life and form that make an impact on me. I am interested in the raw physicality of our environment and the nature of what we cannot see. I am attracted to natural forms and textures, mood, atmosphere, personality and the material variety that can be used to create a visual response. The detail of structure, shape and texture are merged with an experimental process of working, and relationships form within the painting itself. I'm influenced by many artists - two major influences have been the work of Antoni Tapies and Anselm Keifer. I am also drawn to the work of Joseph Beuys, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Diebenkorn, Pieter Bruegel, Susan Rothenberg, Jean Dubuffet, Paul Klee, Morandi, Robert Rauschenberg, Otto Dix, Dumas, Franz Lenk, Paul Serusier, Willem de Kooning, Jean Paul Fautrier, Sam Francis, Nicolas de Stael, Modigliani, Picasso, Derain, Kandinsky, Toulouse-Lautrec, Egon Schiele, Joan Eardley, and I have always loved Cezanne and Matisse as well as many others well known and not so well known. As well as browsing the photos on the slideshow here, you can also visit my website at www.samantha-west.co.uk ..www.samantha-west.co.uk.. Find me on MySpace and be my friend!

It is a great book. The author is Mary Ann Shaffer. The book is set in 1946 and takes the form of letters passing between the characters.
    Well worth a read.
    cheers

    Hi Sam

Good to hear from you - we had a lovely night (until I got a smack in the mouth from a drunk scottish bloke who 'wanted a fight' in the burger shop up the hill ... !) But thanks to all you guys for a lovely night anyhow before that! And it made a good story for stage banter the other nights too.

    Hope you're good

    All the best
