VISION A world where people live in complete harmony with the planet, its creatures, and each other.
MISSION Launched in January 2007, the Moontown Foundation is a Seattle-based, non-profit organization dedicated to ending environmental, social, and economic injustice by empowering people to protect the planet and pursue economic prosperity or the “triple bottom-line”.
GOAL By the year 2020, the Moontown Foundation will have cultivated over 10,000 individuals to become highly respected environmental, social, and economic agents of change, or people we like to call, Eco Ambassadors.
OBJECTIVES Moontown Foundation works to prepare low-income, historically disadvantaged teens and young adults for family wage careers in the clean and renewable energy industry sectors. Our services include outreach and advocacy, curriculum development and recruitment, orientation workshops, and launching innovative programs designed to:
• Raise awareness of the impact of global climate change on poor and historically disadvantaged communities in both the United States and the emerging world;
• Introduce disadvantaged teens and young adults to green job and green business opportunities in the clean and renewable energy industry sectors (i.e., wind, solar, biofuels, and sustainability);
• Demonstrate our expertise in implementing effective education and training programs that meet industry demand, recruiting and supports our the target demographic groups;
• Link adult basic and remedial education with occupational skills training;
• Involve employers and labor unions in the determination of relevant skills and competencies; and • Ensure that supportive services, integrated with education and training are delivered by organizations with direct access to targeted demographic groups, in a culturally sensitive manner.
ACHIEVEMENTS To date, nearly 100 teens and young adults have participated in our EcoApprentice and Ecopreneur programs.
