Music
Classic rock, hard rock & metal, classical, blues, alternative, Russian and other euro rock and pop. I rarely listen to the radio beyond hockey as I detest the constant barrage of commercials and absurd talk filler that crams the airwaves in lieu of good music or intelligent discussion. My taste in music probably shows all that age that my face doesn't! I love a lot of the old classics. I should keep up with modern music, but its not the first thing on my mind most of the time. With my nose always in a book or my fingers always "talking" up a good conversation, I rarely think to listen to music in the first place, let alone check out what or who is new in music. Except in the car. THERE the stereo blasts good tunes so I can rock and roll down the highway like there is no tomorrow.

Movies
Reading, writing, thinking, discussing attract and hold my attention far better than the passivity of TV and movies. The kind of movie that has a chance of holding my attention tend to be of a non-superficial nature that invite me to think and that teach me something about reality past, present, possible future. I prefer substantial dialogue and character development, although some movies can be appealing for certain elements such as notable cinematography and scenery, special effects, surprising story strategies, cinematic innovations, great attention to period details, significant social issues, ect.

Television
HOCKEY!!!! Not much for TV, besides hockey, except for documentary type programs on such channels as OPB, Discovery, History, and Travel. I tune into some TV shows now and then, but since it is not a habit I remember to do on a regular basis, it can be annoying!! Better off with a book since they don't operate on a schedule! Charlie Rose, 30 Days, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Dr. Who, Will & Grace, Friends, Star Trek (original), M*A*S*H, Courage the Dog......
Coppin A Cattitude
Oh Yeah? Well you can just KISS MY FURRY LITTLE ASS!
Books
I love text! I practically inhale books to the tune of one every day or two and have collected thousands. My interest is primarily non-fiction and oriented towards the abstract. I am absolutely fascinated with the human condition and mental exploration of the complexities of human reality. Good conversation is rarely far apart from good reading. Popular topics on my bookshelves include psychology, neuroscience, sociology, philosophy, education, linguistics, a/theology, history, mythology, foreign cultures, ect. My reading spans hundreds of authors to include Ayn Rand, Bertrand Russell, Neal Postman, Carl Sagan, Edward O. Wilson, David Shapiro, Joseph Campbell, Eric Fromm, G.J. Whitrow, Sam Harris, Steven Pinker, Peter Berger, Stanley Coren, Christopher Lasch, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Carl Jung, James Gilligan, Matt Ridley, Roy Baumeister, Viktor Frankl, Isaac Asimov, Friedrich Nietzsche, Rollo May, Thomas Paine, C. Wright Mills, John Douglas, Nancy Friday, Thomas L. Thompson, John Mann, Howard Gardner, Elie Wiesel, Robert Ressler, Robert Ingersoll and hundreds more. I choose a book because the topic and/or its treatment interests me, regardless of whether I agree or disagree with the contents. I also have a taste for classic fiction of previous centuries, as well as for classic poetry. I maintain a partial listing (social science portion) of my book collection on my homepage at http://morgankeller.50megs.com
Heroes
Humanity does have its heroes, whether we know one personally or not. They simply don't wear capes and tights and gleaming perfect smiles always ready on cue for the timely flash of the paparazzi. My heroes are real people with their heads and hearts on straight. My heroes are people who think....and think well. My heroes are people of integrity, a quality far deeper than honesty, an integration of inner and outer self, of behavior and speech, of integrated, meaningful, constructive life philosophies and the healthy living of them. My heroes are people who understand, value, and actively accept and demonstrate fair responsibility in regards to themselves and others. They are responsible TO others and responsible FOR themselves. My heroes are those who are not afraid to be decent and yet not afraid to live the reality of being human. My heroes know they are alive, they don't take it for granted, and they live with gratitude, purpose, creativity, and joy. My heroes know that heroism is not so much about useless sacrifice as it is about building, improving, and maintaining something far greater and broader than mere self. In the end, regardless of what trials they may face, my heroes never lose sight of beauty, wonder, hope, and love.
I rarely meet this kind of person. My closest, dearest friend is such a person and perhaps everyone knows it but him. And he is only just beginning. He teaches me to be a better me and I am not the only one.
I am by nature a friendly, caring, and glad-hearted sort of person. On the other hand I also have a deep love of thinking and being inside myself. Introspection and self-reflection of a functional, non-narcissistic sort is highly underrated. Laughter, humor, and a positive, calm outlook come very naturally to me. Laughing at myself and laughing at life are all in a day's living and tends to permeate much of everything, at least in here, in my own private world. I have a very shy and quiet side to me that sometimes people get and sometimes they don't. I have a few close friends and I take friendship very seriously. What attracts me? A stimulating mind encased in a caring, decent heart....people who think well and have not lost the will to live love in the process.
It is true, I am an atheist. I always have been. The label of "atheist" can lead some people to form hasty assumptions and judgments about my morality, personality, and values without even knowing anything fair or true about me as a person or what I actually do or do not believe in or value. That is a common experience for the atheist. Personally, I live a good, decent, loving life because I live by a life philosophy that is grounded in positive, constructive morals and joyful spirituality, but simply does not include a belief in a god.
Life is about experience and it is about growing. I am always doing both.
All four of my grandparents are of different heritages. I am Native American (Cherokee and Wy-am), Indian (Punjabi), and Dutch.

Who I'd like to meet:
Fantasy meetings? Imagine a large, informal summit between several opinionated guests. Among them: Thomas Paine, Neal Postman, Oscar Wilde, Bertrand Russell, Robert Ingersoll, Joseph Campbell, Winston Churchill, Carl Jung, Ayn Rand, Martin Luther King Jr, Nietzsche, and Socrates.
I think it would be fun to sit down with Alexander Ovechkin and converse in Russian about his path to the NHL, his rookie season experience in the USA, and about himself as a person. Things seem so easy and simple in Russian and despite his awesome rookie campaign, I bet he misses that musical flow that feels like home. Eddie Belfour, Pavel Datsyuk, Jiri Fischer, Marty Straka, Evgeni Nabokov all make the fantasy meeting wish list along with other hockey favorites.
As for more reality-based contacts, I would love to meet friendly people who know how to be their own person. They think for themselves, take responsibility for themselves, and yet still connect with others as decent, involved human beings. They enjoy thinking and communicating and find neither a painful or boring task. They do not conceive of disagreement or difference of opinion as something to be avoided or feared. They enjoy being. They enjoy becoming. They enjoy life and want to make the best of it. They love and respect other human beings regardless of differences such as sexual orientation and basic personal philosophies. They look at the will of the heart more than the social, political, philosophical label. The very rare breed of non-drinking, non-smoking, non-religious, atheist, abstract, basically friendly, intellectual is highly urged to apply, although in reality, my friends and connections of affinity usually do not contain every one of these elements. A note of forewarning: I am not interested in the popular concept of "generic friendship by the numbers" so "friend" requests will be handled according to the reality of our actual interest in one another, or lack thereof, as real people. Alrighty then! Just be yourself, keep it real, say hi, and we will go from there!
