Moriath is an energetic, young group that comes from Michigan’s West Coast. Made up of two of the area’s most dynamic players, Moriath merges traditional Celtic music with a generational influence which transcends the average experience. These two youths have visions and ideas for unique arrangements, while still keeping a heart for the intricacies and subtleties of the traditional tunes of Ireland, Scotland, and Cape Breton.
Regina Kate began learning the fiddle at the age of seven and has since devoted much of her life to practicing and performing. Growing up in a family of Scots/Irish descent she was heavily influenced by traditional old country fiddlers and by newer virtuosos such as Natalie MacMaster. On travels to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and the west of Ireland Regina acquired further affection towards not only the fiddle music but of the dance as well. Her repertoire consists of tunes collected from ancient and modern Ireland and Scotland as well as Cape Breton and America.
Griffin Cobean grew up in a family that would often travel to Irish and Scottish music festivals. The love of Irish and Scottish music came from listening to groups such as the Chieftains, Clancy Brothers, and Planxty. Living close to the Canadian border he and his family would often travel to the highland games and festivals to listen to the pipers and traditional music. His greatest influences come from Irish legends such as Seamus Ennis and Willy Clancy and also from other Irish musicians such as Andy Irvine and Sean Potts.
