In 2003 Corey McCafferty (drums) met and played in a band called I/O with Konstantin Jace (bass). Venus Laurel (piano, vocals) then worked w/Corey on her solo album and in 2008 the three of them moved into a house and formed Moritat. Drawing from Chicago’s rich tradition of instrumental rock music as well as influences as diverse as Sonic Youth and Kate Bush, the group continually crafts their unique sound in their basement studio.
