  • Bio

Every since his first gig at a basement party in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago in the Fall of 1987, Al aka "Allen Mac" aka "Mornin Man" has been labeled as a multi-faceted DJ with a penchant for giving listeners music they want while also challenging them to broaden their appreciation for different types of music. Over the years, Al has acquired a taste for a variety of musical genres ranging from hip hop, R&B, house, jazz, reggae, rock, etc... Al started spinning when the Chicago House Music scene exploded and during the infant stages of what many call hip hop's Golden Era. Ironically, both of these genres are based on music Al was exposed to at an early age by various relatives and neighbors. This exposure helped him develop a deep respect for the old and new and is also the reason Al has been requested to supply music for dusty steppers sets and retro parties as well as hip hop/R&B club sets. Al has been affiliated with various promoters and DJ crews (Soul Selectors) over the years and has gigged at a number of schools (NIU, Aurora University, Governors State University), as well as a number of clubs (Riviera, Mr. Gs, Union Hall, Estate, Club Moet), not to mention hundreds of private functions (weddings, family reunions, birthday parties, fundraisers, office parties, etc). Along with Blackfist, Al is also one half of the hip-hop duo Undaground Moovement (myspace.com/blackisms) and is one fifth of a a psuedo-throwback R&B band Urban Sound Tree (myspace.com/urbansoundtree) providing keyboards. Al is also an aspiring producer and songwriter. His credits include producing the very last winning demo for the Chicago's Best demo contest for the now defunct radio station 106 Jamz and co-writing 2 songs that received honorable mention in the 2002 Billboard Songwriting Contest.

In terms of the realm of DJing...Any DJ coming out of Chicago from Herb Kent to the present (real DJ's, not radio personalities). All the DJ's from the hood. GMF, JMJ, Jazzy Jeff, Primo, Pete Rock, the Xecutionors, MAW, Ron Hardy, Frankie Knucles, Larry Levan, etc...
