This Dallas, Texas based band brandishes their own unique sound, which many fans would likely describe as Hard-Rockin’ Country. Club owners call The Mo Robson Band profitable, as this band has built a reputation for packing houses, crowding dance floors, and bringing new fans with them at every venue they burn the stage up at, which includes most of the states most storied stages.
The Mo Robson Band is made up Mo Robson (Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica, Power-Lifting), Matt Hope (Lead Guitar, Male Modeling), Rob Short (Bass, Dungeons & Dragons Champ), Wesley Holtsford (Fiddle and Corn-Nuts Afficianado) and Brandon Rice (Drums, once got a “Participant” ribbon at 8th Grade field day). Robson started playing around town with other members, going from a duo in 1999 to a full-fledged group by late 2000. This ambiguously-straight band of Waffle House regulars soon landed a regular Tuesday night gig at Adair’s Saloon in Dallas, TX, one of Texas’ legendary venues. Texas greats such as Jack Ingram and 1100 Springs began on the very same, beer-soaked, black-marker stained stage.
Soon, The Mo Robson Band began touring the area as well as the state, in addition to cutting their first CD, “Mo Robson Band. The boys of The Mo Robson Band have played gigs throughout all sorts of adversarial conditions: break-ups, hang-ups, incarceration, inebriation, sickness and even gigs that weren’t showing a televised Cowboy’s game at the bar. Over the last eight years the MRB has been giggin’ all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and even Louisiana, playing clubs, festivals, fairs, rodeos, and Little Miss "Look at Me" Pageants (Go Jenny-Lou, you can do it girl!!). The guys have even been on-hand to rock many corporate and private functions.
It was their second disc, “Even Angels Fall” that propelled MRB onto the Texas Charts and onto some of the biggest stages that Texas has to offer. Robson’s songs consist of tales from his own unique set of circumstances. Whether it’s tales from time spent outside of the state (“Rolling Down This Highway”), time spent on the wrong side of the law (“Good Morning Warden”), time spent with the bottle (“Jim Beam Whiskey”), or even time spent trying to figure what to do next (“First One to Go”), Robson gives the listener a pass behind the curtain into the life that has provided for him the fertile ground from which to create from. Their latest release, from Smith Music, “Mo Robson Band – Live at Adair’s” gives the listener a peak into what life is like at one of the craziest honky-tonks around when their favorite sons take the stage on a booze-soaked Friday night. New tracks such as “Gettin’ Gone”, “Mitchell Stone” (both are Robson originals) and a cover of Social Distortions’s “Ball and Chain” make this album on of the definitive documents on why Texas has garnered such a reputation as a state for live music that makes no apologies for its grit, passion and occasional bad language (sorry, can’t apologize for that).
The fan base of the Mo Robson Band consists of folks that have been life-long country fans plus listeners who haven’t historically been into Country Music, but are attracted to The Mo Robson Band’s brand of Rockin’ Country. They are able to detect a difference between honest and fake when they hear much of the stuff from today‘s crowded field of Country music that isn’t really all that “Country,“ let alone as real, rockin’ and authentic as the work of The Mo Robson Band.
