"Skylark" took flight December 12, 2006. Gigi MacKenzie's first solo album has arrived. Having served as a top L.A. studio singer for over 10 years, Gigi MacKenzie has recorded national commercials and major movie soundtracks, including the hit movie Mr. Holland's Opus and the theme song to "Nash Bridges".
She has performed all over the world with many Grammy award winning artists such as Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Gladys Knight and Tom Scott, just to name a few.
In Gigi's first solo album, "Skylark", she brings a unique fresh style to the beautiful old jazz standards. Her captivating sound combined by the melding of Hip Hop, Modern Jazz and R&B make these songs come alive once again. Not only is her voice wonderfully magnetic and sexy with a huge range, but a sense of intimacy unfolds as she accompanies herself on guitar, drums and percussion as well.
Gigi has been coupled with so many great musicians to achieve this romantic, cool and souldful jazz CD. It's the perfect mix of old and new, sending the heart and imagination to great highs with songs like "Shadow Of your Smile", "Come Rain Or Come Shine" and "Cry Me A River".
"Skylark" is a tribute to Gigi's mother, Gisele MacKenzie. Gisele passed away from cancer a few years ago. There is a beautiful duet with Gisele and Gigi, thanks to modern technology, originally recorded by Gisele back in the 1950's. Gisele was a huge star of both stage and screen, even having her own TV show and a 1 hit song.
For those Christopher Cross fans, he performs a duet with Gigi on this CD. You don't want to miss "That's All"! It's an emotional journey you don't want to miss.
