Band Biography; Moses Moorhouse and the Dinosaur Palace
May 09
Moses Moorhouse and the Dinosaur Palace met at the end of 2008 through the BCFE music performance course in Dublin, and soon formed out of a similar taste, and a mutual respect for rockin’ out . The band first appear to be a rock outfit, with giant hair and moustaches a go-go, but the subtle class of Moses’ nylon stringed guitars and the pounding African rhythms’ give their sound an overtone of something a bit more globally influenced.
Moses Moorhouse, singer/songwriter from the village of Gowran Co. Kilkenny, began writing songs when he was a wee lad, earning local kudos, and quickly establishing himself as an artist, playing gigs around Kilkenny town, learning his art, and gaining a reputation as an entertainer, a story teller, and a woeful dirty joke smith. With lyrical subject matter ranging from the absurd to the heartfelt, his quirky style of song writing is witty, and honest. His guitar playing is exclusively finger picked, and intricate. As for Moorhouse’ vocal style, and chocolate use of his falsetto…it has been said to of gotten him laid twice… so far.
On bass guitar is Jody LeRock, hailing from Rathfarnam, Dublin. He first decided to grow his moustache at the beginning of 2009, and since then has been providing catchy, solid bass lines for the band. Drawing on influences from funk, indie, and soul music, LeRock adds a groove to the sound which brings it straight into the modern market. Currently his other projects include ‘Mar Mar sings‘, and ‘Poster Children’. When not playing bass, Jody plays Synth in the Band, adding an electro element to some of their songs. Jody once stormed the stage at a blink 182 gig and can cook a fantastic Beef Bourguignon while riding a Vespa.
Duties of the electrical guitar variety are handled by Joichin Barrett of Kildare. Having played in many rock outfits as a nipper, J.B played gigs around Leinster for the early years of his life, and completed a philosophy degree (for reasons still unreasoned), until meeting the Dinosaur Palace and joining at the beginning of 2009. His clean strat sound compliments nicely the finger style of Moorhouse. He is also a percussion player in Dublin acoustic trio ‘Bel Canto‘. He resides in the "Lovely" town of Kildare.
Drummer, Kiwi Considine from Longford provides a technically sound foundation for the sounds of the dinosaur palace. Drawing on experience from local bands he's played with in Longford. His influences range from Travis Barker and Q.O.T.S.A to Steve Gadd. Considine delivers the bands distinct groove, with definition. He also drums for Dublin Heavy Rock outfit "The Ching Ching factor." Kiwi is called Kiwi for the simple reason that his 1st name is actually unpronounceable.
Having played Dublin’s “The Village” on the 22/4/09, a professionally videoed BCFE showcase gig, amongst other Dublin venues, the band are now arranging their set and getting new material ready for performance around the country.
