Yo Gabba Gabba's Muno -- cuddly monster or sex toy? This being a blog that's linked to a family newspaper, I've avoided writing about this topic for several weeks. I'm also wary about doing anything to get the crazy right-wing bloggers riled up. (Because, you know, that worked out so well last time.) But since our "Yo Gabba Gabba" post went up last month, we've received at least three e-mails about the same subject:
mistershape. com Yo Gabba Gabba's Muno, second from left, uses 12 D batteries per show. Why did the creators of the Nick Jr. children's show include a character that looks like a giant sex toy?
I'm talking, of course, about Muno. "He's tall and friendly," the theme song informs us, as the giant orange cyclops jumps up and down (vibrates, really) and giggles. His most noticeable for-her-pleasure feature by far is the fact that he's covered with Astroglide little bumps that aren't unlike several products you'll find in the Good Vibrations catalogue.
I've ignored the phallus in the room this long, mostly because I don't think it's that huge of a deal. First of all, what child's plaything these days doesn't look like a sex toy? No kid is going to make the connection until they're much older, and the fond memories of Muno might help them to be less sexually repressed. I'm also apparently among the minority who enjoys watching "Yo Gabba Gabba" with my child, and I'd hate to see some kind of stupid Tinky Winky-style religious right controversy detract from the merits of the show.
Plus, if you're going to get outraged about something involving this program, shouldn't it be because Biz Markie is clearly stoned?
