Maurice Skillern

About me:

The Author-Poet-Philosopher; Maurice Skillern was born in Houston, Texas. Accepting reality and taking definative actions to better his reality has always been one of his strong points. With this in mind after graduating from high school he realized that neither he nor his family had the means to send him to college so he then made the first of many focused decision to better himself no matter what the sacrifice. Maurice in 1985 joined the active duty ranks of the United States Army to both serve his country and to eventually afford him the ability to attend college. He spent most of his adult life as a member of the armed forces serving both on active duty and in the reserve components. During his career as a soldier Maurice served willingly in three conflicts (Desert Shield/Storm (1991), Joint Endeavor (Germany; 1996), Iraq Freedom (Baghdad, Iraq; 2003)). He has also served on both sides of the Army houses, initially as an enlisted soldier (where he reached the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7)) and eventually as an Officer (he retired a Captain).
