Vancouver Canada's Mother Mother are generating much recognition with their original approach to modern pop/rock music; a beautifully bent portrait of vocal harmony, clever, offbeat lyricism, and dynamic instrumentation. Their sound is best encapsulated on their sophomore album, O My Heart, produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers) and Mother Mother's own frontman, Ryan Guldemond. O My Heart is the band's second album on Toronto-based boutique indie label, Last Gang Records (Metric, The New Pornographers, DFA 1979, Crystal Castles) and was released in September 2008, following the group's 2007 debut, Touch Up. To date the release has seen much success, topping the Canadian campus and community radio charts and climbing very high as well as sustaining a charting on the CMJ Top 200 for more than 14 weeks and counting. In support of O My Heart, Mother Mother have embarked on several North American tours and festivals, including an extensive tour of the US as support for the Sam Roberts Band with stops at CMW and SXSW along the way.
"Mother Mother coos lovely boy-girl harmonies, masking their dire lyrics while slyly exulting in the cleansing blaze." - Spin Magazine
"Vocal Harmonies even Queen would be proud of" - UR Chicago Magazine
"Takes the lyrical genius of the first [album], pushes it beyond all expectations and then pairs it with the band's trademarked intertwining vocal harmonies." - Exclaim!
You guys ROCKED Massey Hall!!! Loved when you came out with brooms during Matt Good. Miss catching you guys in places like The Supermarket; Nothing will ever rival that show (the day I heard of Mother Mother).
Thanks for making music that makes me proud to be a Canadian musician...
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us! I'm in the US but one of my Canadian friends introduced me to you guys. Ryan, you aren't afraid to write about anything in your lyrics and I appreciate that. Your amazing harmonies and original melodies are addicting, keep it up!
This Canadian indie rock band Mother Mother is not a peg that easily fits into any hole. Every song, every album and every performance is different from the next hitting genres ranging from pop to rock to punk to folk and all places in between. Spartan Youth Radio CanRock Reporter Madeline Lemire caught guitarist/vocalist Ryan Guldemond while on tour in London, Ontario and they chatted about the enigma that is Mother Mother, what makes good music and where the award winning band is going in 2010. Listen to two of Mother Mother's songs after the interview (starting at 10min 50sec). Hear the interview on Spartan Youth Radio.
It seems that Christmas time is here once again, and it is time again to bring in the New Year. We wish the merriest of Christmas to you and your loved ones, and we wish you happiness and prosperity in the year ahead. Yola
Thanks for opening for Matt Good at the Empire the other night. Dug you more than the headlining act. Sounded great. Drummer feels really good and your harmonies are excellent
I hope that you guys (together with Pale Young Gentlemen) ever come to Belgium at a festival. Your two bands played a huge part in what I could call the best period of my life.
