2004: Motherpig was started as an idea in the head of Sharan, but nothing serious happened. Just an idea which wasn’t even named at all.
2005: During ISK Radio Show, Sharan’s metal/hardcore/punk radio show, Sharan and his friend Ajdin listened to Sadistik Exekution and laughed their ass off while getting drunk. Sharan mentioned an idea of starting a band so fast no one could listen to it, and Ajdin popped with a name Motherpig. Why? We still don’t know, maybe because he had an idea of guttural pig squals instead of vocals.
First planned line-up was Ajdin on drums/vocals and Sharan on bass/guitar/vocals. It never happened. Ajdin abandoned an idea and Sharan started to record the first demo. First song ever made was “Halal Anus”. Song was posted for free download at bosnian rock’n'roll bulleting board “Rock Planet” and 90% of people hated it and considered it a worst piece of shit ever.
Sharan, as stubborn as he is, continued to work and self-released six songs demo called “Good Ol’ Laugh” inspired by Anal Cunt, although in one song called “New Nazi Anthem (Now I Know Why Hitler Blew His Head Off)” there was a trace of anti-nazi attitude Motherpig is still very proud of.
2006: Nothing more was done in 2005, and Motherpig was dead. Sharan had one tryout to make a band complete with members of Bosnian black metal band KRV, but it was nothing more than just a try. Then, Sharan made a Myspace and posted some songs. Since Myspace is full of every kind of music and people who enjoy everything, there were some people who really liked Motherpig’s sound. Gilles aka PornGoreJesus from Belgian label “Parkinson Wankfist Pleasures” just started his label and invited Motherpig to 10 Way Split.
The split was called “Psychodelic Porn Hellucinations” and there were 9 porngoregrind bands plus Motherpig on it. Sharan did four songs for this split – all lyrically inspired by social and political situation in Bosnia, but still musically inspired by Anal Cunt and now even more by Sore Throat and XXX Maniak. This year Sharan met Atlija while he was playing with his band Infernal Hemeroid in Sarajevo, not knowing that he will change the face and sound of Motherpig forever.
2007:After being released on 10 Way split album in 2006, even more people and labels got interested in Motherpig. It was a productive year of Motherpig. First there was “Unreleased Fuck-Ups” recording which is actually Motherpig’s part of the split with a band named Chainsaw Masturbation which never happened. “Unreleased Fuck-Ups” were self-released by Motherpig as a free download.
Then, one more time, PWP striked back and invited Motherpig to “Splatter Fetish”, craziest worldwide split EVER – 100 bands of gore, porn and grind – Motherpig was the only one from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the song called “Hellpit” ended up on “Splatter Fetish”. After SF, Sharan was honored to do a first conceptual split album – “1428″, that was the name of split which was released on Mental Abuse Records in USA as a tape. This split contained great and crazy band called Phlegm Thrower from Phillipines. Gore Pink Logo of Motherpig was created this year by Jamie, member of Phlegm Thrower.
The last, but not the least, in 2007, PWP released a great split CD of Motherpig and one of the Sharan’s fav bands from the beginning of his grind listening career – Texas own Intestinal Disgorge. This split CD is the last one on which Motherpig was a bedroom project with programmed drums. At the end of 2007, after a long debate about the future of the band, two members are welcomed to Motherpig – drummer Alex who also plays in Bosnian band Evading Downfall, but also played in several other bands including Menace to Society, Tread & The Psychoacoustics, Ambrosia, Torture Assault and more, and the other member – Zvone on guitars which is also a member of first Bosnian porngrind band Sado Mazo.
The first gig happened on December 16th 2007 in Club Bock, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Motherpig shared a stage with KRV, Tread & The Psychoacoustics and Rapa Nui. Live appearance of the Motherpig was accepted very well by a local crowd.
2008: The line-up of Zvone, Sharan and Alex became really stable and they started working on some new songs. Now, the music of the band was completely changed, there was more rock’n'roll ala Motorhead threw in the mix, also there were certain hardcore/punk, blackmetal and grindcore influences – all in old school way. Capeta Records from Brazil released a 5 Way split called “Proleterian Union” which contained five Motherpig’s songs.
The main difference between these songs and other songs Motherpig did before 2008 was lyrical context – it was decided songs about politics and social situations will be sung in Bosnian, and songs about other stuff (mainly horror movies) will be sung in English.
2008 was a year when Motherpig finally started to gain some real attention from people Sharan always wanted to attract – Jan from legendary Agathocles decided to give Motherpig a chance and a split CD of Motherpig and Agathocles entitled “The Underdogs Philosophy” was released by GETUPANDKILL Music from USA. This release helped Motherpig to attract even more people, mainly ofcourse, because of Agathocles appearance on it. Tape version of this CD was released by Keep Mincing Records from Brazil. Unfortunately, that label broke almost instantly after releasing this tape. More and more gigs were coming Motherpig’s way, and they also went abroad to Croatia to crush some eardrums by playing live. Motherpig also played on first edition of Anarcho Punk Fest “@ JE TO” and shared a stage with legendary Croatian punk band KUD Idijoti and some more fine acts on Scream Fest in July 2008.
Sometimes during 2008, Sharan was diagnosed with a state next to having hernia, so his doctor strictly forbid him to sing violently. Motherpig needed a new voice, and fast. That voice came in the shape of Osa aka Odron, vocalist of Sarajevo’s black metal horde “Odar”. With Osa, bend recorded four songs for PWP’s 4 Way release containing Motherpig, …And You Shall Live In Terror (UK), Spooky Steve (USA) and Burial Ground (BEL). Motherpig also recorded some more shit which was released in 2009.
In 2008, Gianni from Remedy Art Design (Greece) made a new logo and t-shirt design for Motherpig which became a final graphic solution for Motherpig in 2009.
2009: This year started with a blast. Motherpig was supported as a support act for NAPALM DEATH in Sarajevo, along with Flatline! Band played that show without Zvone, since Zvone fucked his guitar up just before climbing on the stage. Few days after that legendary and monumental gig for the band, Zvone decided to leave a band, defining his reasons to leave as ”musical differences”.
Having their egos boosted, Sharan, Alex and Osa decided to search for a new guitar player in Sarajevo, but there was no one quite interested to fill in. That was quite a problem, since Motherpig was scheduled for first European tour in May 2009 with their comrades and Sharan’s second band Rapa Nui. Hopeless, searching for a new guitar player willing to learn songs and go touring, Sharan contacted his friend Atlija which he met during Atlija’s visit to Sarajevo when he was playing with Infernal Hemeroid in 2006.
Atlija agreed, got the songs and learned them by heart. Literally, since when Motherpig went on tour which spread over 20 days and included Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Croatia and Bosnia (with brief visits to Hungary and Poland), people loved what they heard and Motherpig was really completed again – with Sharan back on vocal duty since Osa didn’t get his documents issued in time to leave for a tour. In Germany, Atlija showed his dedication to a band by writing first two songs for debut album – songs “Nothing Ever Changes” and “The Stench”. Motherpig played memorable shows in front of 400 people in Czech and 0 (ZERO) people in Germany – they drank with so many people, met bands and gain new friends from Inepsy (CAN), Demarche (CZ), Destination Failure (GER) and so on, and proved to themselves this is really the best line-up ever – Sharan on bass and vocals, Atlija on guitar and vocals and Alex on drums.
After coming back from a tour, Osa left a band. To this very day, band members are still not sure what happened and why, but everyone supported an idea of Sharan coming back to mic, so Motherpig continued playing in this line-up. Motherpig no longer searched for Sarajevo’s based guitar player – the band now functions perfectly between two cities – Sarajevo and Zupanja; and two countries – Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia.
2009 was also a year of some new releases – French label NH.D.I.Y.ST released split CD of Motherpig, Gruuthaagy (CRO), BxOxGx (BiH) and Leech Eater (USA) entititled “Four Horsemen of Noise” which contained three Motherpig cover songs of The Exploited (”Fuck The USA”), Darkthrone (”Too Old Too Cold”) and GG Allin (”Bite It You Scum”) recorded during Motherpig’s performance on Radio 202’s live show “Propeler” with old 2007 line-up (Sharan on bass and mic, Zvone on guitar and Alex on drums, but also Osa as a guest vocalist on Darkthrone’s cover). Darkthrone’s cover ended up on Darkthrone Tribute which was released by Canadian own Deadknife Records as free download.
Three Canadian labels teamed up to bring the world 4 Way Tape of Violent Gorge (CAN), Rash (CAN), Mundo Cadaver (BRA) and Motherpig, containing 5 songs recorded in January 2008 with old line-up – Sharan on bass and vocals, Zvone on guitar and Alex on drums. Motherpig did some releases on their own again – first DVD was released in 2009 – SPLIT DVD with Rapa Nui contained full show of Motherpig from second edition of Anarcho Punk Fest and some bonus features. Also, there was a strictly tour limited compilation of 14 Motherpig songs.
Motherpig is proud to be part of the first S.A.W.A. (Sick As We Are) Open Air Fest which was held in Zupanja in July 2009.
More things are about to come, so stay tuned and track down The Pigs!
We play rock’n'roll. Do not get confused – we may sound like your fav punk band at one moment, and go berserk by playing old school death metal few seconds later. While other bands out there try to sound as perfect as possible, trying to be commercial, trying to be METAL or PUNK or HARDCORE, quite simple – trying to be THE ONE – we’re doing it our own way, cause it is the only way we know. We Are Motherpig – We Are Punk Grind Mince Death Black Doom Crust DIY Anti-Nazi Horror – We Are Rock’n'Roll!
WHAT THEY SAID...
"Sharan, that's a great song, very catchy. It reminds me a lot of Antisect in the early days, they had that driven Discharge riff style. I agree also with your sentiments, Nationalism i ultimately divisive and to quote Einstein: ''Nationalism is an infantile disease''." - Rob Miller, AMEBIX, commenting on Motherpig's song "Nothing Ever Changes".
"MOTHERPIG……First time I heard them, mid 80’s chaoscore came to mind. Chaotic bands such as BRIGADA DO ODIO, SEA MONKEYS, early BOOM AND THE LEGION OF DOOM. And in some other song, I discovered quite some early S.O.B. feeling. Excellent." - Jan, AGATHOCLES
"I love Rock'N'Roll, so I love Motherpig, with filthy bastard sound, he have graved in my lot of fucking choruses in my mind...forever...Swing of the Mediaxeeee..." - Omega, SMYT Records CEO
"Motherpig is a vile spectacle. True subversive grindcore in a period when extreme music emblematizes everything it’s supposed to excoriate. Certainly destabilizes the murder/victim certainties, while, at the same time, plumbing/violating every boundary of the corporeal/psychic imaginable. Motherpig IS Grind." - Kevin, LEECH EATER
''Get up and kill!!!! arrggghhhh!! Good tunes and good to see bands like you from your country...come to the States and destroy...Good grind!!! Cheers!!! - Shane, PHOBIA
