Influences
In no particular order...
Mark Tremonti
Mark Tremonti's brand of well thought out messaged filled music with
great riffs, soaring ballads, and uplifting hooks has left its permanent
mark on me (no pun intended.) I'm a huge Alter Bridge fan, and even a
Creed fan to an extent despite the bad rap they always got.
Zakk Wylde
Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever. If you can't tell by now
I'm a sucker for a positive message. Having insanely well honed lighting
fast chops also ain't too bad.
Eddie Van Halen
Bombastic flashy riff based rock with its heart in blues.
Steve Vai
How do you find the balance between feel and shred? Steve Vai is how.
Joe Satriani
Melodic, beautiful, and sometimes almost haunting. I never grow tired
of his melodic playing. I have a huge respect for his ability to never
sound repititious.
Slash
Raw, edgy, rev'd up blues. I sometimes wish my style was a tad more lose
like his, but his sleezy riff writing definitely made an impact on me.
John Petrucci
I love all the hints of different elements in his playing. I've heard
progressive and metal all the way down to smooth jazz.
Days of the New
I know this may seem a bit of a contrast when compared to a lot of the
other artists on this list, but this kind of music is where you find a
lot of truth and meaning. Like I said, I like to try to have a point to
my music and these guys deliver some heavy stuff when you listen to the
lyrics.
Paul Gilbert
Such a sickeningly clean player and riff writer.
Jimi Hendrix
I've heard alot of people try and say he's overrated, but in my opinion
soul is something you can never have too much of.
John Mayer
Say what you will, but this is one of the few cats still carrying the
torch. Great songwritter, great feel to his playing.
Jimmy Page
Another one some people call overratted. Come up with some blues phrasing
like him then maybe we'll talk.
Randy Rhoads
I'd have to say about all though, the guitarist that had the biggest
influence on me is the late great Randy Rhoads. I run a site called "Diary
of an Axeman" with a friend of mine dedicated to him. Check it out if
you wish to learn more about him.

--------------------
I have MANY many numerous other influences, including early Alice Cooper, early Kiss, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, King's X, 7m3, Godsmack, Pink floyd, Queensryche, George Lynch... The list goes on and on. Sometimes you can almost hear what I'm into at the time reflecting in my writing...
Sounds Like
Ok, take 3 monkeys with an attention disorder, give them a 50 piece drum set once owned by Charles Bronson. Add in a little Fine Young Cannibals for zest and you got something that sounds absolutely nothing like me. I'd like to consider it Joe Satriani and Randy Rhoads had an ugly kid.
Actually its something that I struggle with a lot, and thats trying to find my one true voice as a musician with so many influences. I don't want to be a one trick pony, but I also don't want to have a million projects either. I'd like to be able to fuse and merge it all down to one tangible style of music if at all possible. I'm stuck between loving a simple groove for the ladies to move to, something that actually means something to me personally, and wanting something that tears your face off. I guess at the end of the day I sound like me no matter what I do.
I'm a musician and an artist first and foremost, fueled by passion and anxiety, lust and compasion, driven by the primal instinct of the need for success and clarity and the need to feel like I'm living in the center of a perfect circle. I'm also a part of this complete balanced breakfast. Don't let the layout fool you, there is a real person in here who still occassionally will watch Disney's "Recess." Wow, too soon? Oh well. I also hate describing what I'd "like" for you to know about me or see about me, but thats probably exactly what this is going to turn into real quick because this is the about me section. So let me just talk about the music.
It would be cliche to say that music is my form of expression but its true. I love all styles and types of music and write to fit my mood, or a mood of a day. Be it a twilight drive with your girl through downtown during the Christmas season, or dealing with a life situation at hand, I find it hard to just write in one style to purge whatever good or bad is on my mind so my music is really all over the place, just like the structure of this paragraph.
Project : Fusion 2004
This is a collection of some of the very first songs I wrote. They represent basically the latter half of my teenage years. Theres a lot of ideas going on here and the style varies drastically from song to song so I think its safe to say theres a little something for everyone on this CD. Thats actually where the name came from, as I was trying to fuse all of the ideas together with the common thread being the vocal-esque guitar melody binding them all together in place of actual vocals. The production and playing is a bit rough here and there, but rather than redoing it I think it stands for itself as what it is and also you can never capture the same feeling twice.
Equilibrium 2006
At a point in my life where I realized innocence wasn't enough to keep me happy anymore, it was time to begin life, yet life already was trampling all over me. As everyone says, you've got to live life to the fullest, as cliche as that sounds, and I had no idea where to start, or what made me tick, and made me happy. This was the journey to organizing that.
Dreams COMING SOON
Since forming Vertigo Rising with the help of some friends, it really helped free up my solo material for something perhaps a bit more experiemental and light hearted. Something not as hard rockin' and not as deep philosophically. Its a bit of a departure from my usual style but its still me and who I am none the less. I wanted to do something with more grooves, a lil more sexy if you will. Hope you all dig it when it comes out later this year!
