About me: I'm Anthony Mastrocola. I just moved to Roswell, GA which is 20 miles north of Atlanta, GA from Pennsylvania. The most obvious thing about me is that I'm paralyzed. I'm something that's hard to put a finger on. You can't categoirze me because I'm a blend of many things. At a glance you might see the tattos, earrings, skateboarder shoes, or studded belt. Sometimes certain parts of my life require the different parts in me to come out. For example; Friday night I'm drag racing. Tuesday I'm working out at the gym and playing basketball, Wednesday I'm writing music and jamming out, Saturday night I'm out playing poker tournamnets or just chilling with friends. I surround myself with as different people as the faces I wear.
I'm full-blooded Italian. I've been riding four wheelers since I was 7 years old and still do. I've been racing full sized quads since I was 13. I've been playing guitar since I was 12. I'm into hard rock, metal and alternative music. I have 4 peircings and 4 tattos. I'm still a risk-taker, even confined to my wheelchair. I am a victim of speed and adrenaline; yet more addicted than ever.
I know you're wandering so this is what happened...
I was on my way up to be a Pro Motocross Racer. I started this dream when I was 12. The next year, at a whopping 5'3" I was piloting my 400ex over 50 foot doubles. Five years later, June 17th, 2006 everything I practiced, dreamed about and worked for since then, came together to give me two back to back national main event wins at Delmont, PA @ Steel City MX. The day after at the same event, my luck changed when I crashed and broke 5 vertebrae, shattering one leaving me paralyzed from the chest down. God has a plan for me. I bled out nearly 4 pints of blood from severe internal injuries that were nearly fatal. The 9 hour, $200,000 life-saving surgery placed 2 ten inch long titanium rods, and 8 screws in my upper back. I shattered brand new my $375 Carbon Fiber/Kelvar top-of-the-line helmet in 5 places protecting me from getting no more than a serious concusion. I live by the quote "you don't know what you have till it's gone". Since the accident, I've learned to live a whole life, one that forces me to push myself to be stronger, more patient, tolerant, and appreciative of people and life. I have witnessed true love and compassion from my family, friends, and even many strangers. I just had surgery to implant a baclofen pump in my lower abdomen to reduce serve spasticity and nerve pain that comes along with spinal cord injury. Then, in January I plan ..ing my four year degree to study Business Administration and Managemnt.
I'm one of the most self-motivated, determined, and independent people you will ever meet. I believe that I will walk someday from a surgery that utilizes either Adult or Embryonic Stem Cells. I am concidered a "complete" injury meaning I have little or no sensation or movement below my injury (chest). I want to thank all of my family and friends for everything. I try to be an inspiration to those in need. My goal is to show people that every one in this world has problems they deal with, and many worse than their own, but see past them and make the best of it."
"LIVE FAST OR DIE SLOW". Don't be afraid to take risks, but do so within your limits. Live your life to the fullest without looking back at regrets. I do not regret racing, even in the momment that I went down for the last time. I always try to live past my physical disability and make the best of what I still have. After I sold everything from Motocross racing, and some fundraisers, I purchased a 1999 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 liter. It's a mid 13 second car that someday I'll turn into a 10 second asphalt shredder. It's a way that I can still express who I am. And of course, I enjoy taking it to Atlanta Dragway on friday nights to run it down the track. I also love using it's modular V-8 power and sound to scare off the fart-can four cylinder cars off the boulevard.
If you want to know anything else or get to know me better hit up my AIM @ QuadMXracer or amastrocola17@Yahoo.com. Thanks for reading and God Bless.
Who I'd like to meet: anyone in the Atlanta area up for a good time. and maybe someday meet who i've been waiting for.
