MOTOR CITY KITTY ISSUE THIRTEEN OUT NOW! 32 pages, 1/4 sized, $1 ($2 international) it took me nearly a year to make a new zine so i'm feelin pretty proud of this right now. it's all written on a typewriter and pasted together by hand. it mostly discusses gender, identity, being queer, summer romances, writing letters, and making/having goals. plus there are some of the illustrations from my summer art project (miss teen ohio) in it.
issues 8,-13 are available from me for the time being. issues 11 and 12 are available from learning to leave a paper trail, gimme brains!!! and marching stars distros as well. i'll soon have all of my zines available exclusively through distros as i've realized i am too big of a procrastinator to be sending zines out myself, and often spend the buck or two on food. hopefully you all understand. however, i will still do trades on my own.
for information on back issues of motor city kitty please check the blog.
if you are interested in a copy of any of my zines, email me at motorcity_kitty@yahoo.com, leave a comment or send me a message here on myspace. i am also open to submissions (preferably artwork and recipes!), and accept zines and/or CDs for review.
FUTURE ISSUES:
issue fourteen will be about teaching poetry, tattoos, and my father, amongst other things.
i'm beginning work on a food zine tentatively called either "my little cookbook" or "gut instinct." i've been trying to make this for years, originally inspired by trying to eat healthy/figuring out how to cook in the dorms. i need submissions for this so send 'em this way! recipes, stories about food/food related jobs, poetry, photos, grocery lists, info on vegetarianism/veganism, anything! i'll also gladly print anything on eating disorders in this zine if you'd like to submit it. there is no deadline as i have no idea when i'll acutally get around to making it.
i've also recently decided to make a poetry chapbook as well as a poetry compilation zine with works from some of my friends (because i know a lot of really great poets.)
for more information on motor city kitty you can add my zine livejournal, username motorcity_kitty, add me on we make zines or ask me directly by IMing riotpoptart.
Kimle tanışmak isterim: other zinesters. distro owners. a zine writing muse. riot grrrls. interesting people. someone who wants to make a split zine with me. people who actually read my zine. grrrls with musical instruments that wanna form a band with me.
Thank you. Take pride that you played a part in turning me on to them and rocking out to the riffs of feminist fury! Plus, I just can't into the Jonas Brothers.
The new blog can be found at http://rockandthesinglegirl. blogspot. com, the first post just went up last night! I'm about to send out a bulletin more or less begging people to read it. Maybe one day I can persuade you/friends of yours in the Kent/Cleveland "scene" to contribute!
p.s. How goes the music? I hope you're still working on it.
I got your zines in the mail a while back! And they fit perfectly into a jacket pocket, so when I went to a *very* scene show in the heart of hipster-central-brooklyn, I brought the Cleveland ish with me. At first it gave me something to do while all the kids who were way too cool for me talked around me/ignored me...and then, later on, one of the other volunteers from rock camp who must be down with the zines came over to me and started asking about MCK! It made an awkward night....slightly less awkward.
oh and btw: the submissions in that zine are amazing. And I'm not just saying that because I contributed. Really, I was blown away by the writing. Awesome job on putting it all together! Can't wait for more of your zines!
p.s. I've started up a blog about gender in punk and hardcore (no one else is talking about it, I figured I would), and I've linked to the MCK myspace page on my list of other music/feminist publications. I hope you don't mind!
hmmm... I was under the impression (based on the emails) that if the deadline implied wasn't met you would published the projects/products finished by me and already recieved by you. Or were they not in the approriate file? Unfortunetly, it is very hard to come by a scanner in my neck of the woods. All my work is on my laptop which is a complete pain in the crotch to transfer to a physical final piece. Lakewood's new library system isn't meant for zinesters. Studio-A-Rama is this weekend at CASE in Clevo. along with DIT Fest in kent at the vineyard. Delay is playing w/ Machine Go Boom etc.. I moved to this beautiful urban studio apt. and I'm hosting a ZINE EXPO (TRADE WORKSHOP AND MOVIE "PREMIER" SHOWING) in the middle of October at my place<3 THIS IS A PREVIEW OF AN INVITE xoxox Please inform me on any upcoming events in your area. David Byrne @ Playhouse at the end of Oct. Nick Cave in chicago at the end of this month- carpool- you're invited. How is your sexulaity quest going? I'm the most optimistic I've ever been in that department and other life decesions! May I have your phone #? truly* Chris Robin
Yeah, I'm not a fan of how small the lettering is; that's why, for that quote space on my profile, I rewrote the text.
The cover itself will be a photoshopped image of that graphic with a background and different text. So it'll be the same core image, but with any luck, it'll look way different.
Thanks for honest critique, girl. How are things going with you?
Hmm... I still think it would fit really well in the zine, but if you don't feel inspired to write it, I'm obviously not going to force you to, haha. I'm trying to finish the zine by July, but I've given myself way too many projects to work on, so I'm not sure it's gonna happen as soon as I want it to!
