Motorcycle Black Madonnas
The Motorcycle Black Madonnas are a Rock and Roll band from Los Angeles, California. Blending such influences as The Stooges, Patti Smith, The Ramones and Bob Dylan they've just finished their first CD, Its Everywhere, for Blue Mask Records. The CD takes the listener from the sledgehammer guitar and biting vocals of Into The Light to the pretty Golden Clouds and many different dynamic trips along the way. The idea was to make the CD as exciting as possible and to frame the inspired lyrics and singing of Marea Katopodis.
The band consists of singer, Marea Katopodis, whose lyrics are inspired by the great Rock and Roll poets Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed. Jonathan Hall (current member of LAs Backbiter and former member of obscure RI garage band Porno Sponges and San Fernando Valley punk rockers Angry Samoans) is on guitar. Drummer, John Collinson, was in the LA band, Leather Hymen.
Much of the CD was first takes, the lead guitar was done on the first take live with band (only a couple of solos were overdubbed), all 14 songs were sung in one day, all 14 songs were tracked in one day, mistakes were left in, unexpected feedback and noise were relished. The CD was recorded at a furious pace to capture the frenetic energy of a live show. The goal was to sound like a loud Rock and Roll band had just plugged in their instruments and played their hearts out (which is actually what happened).
