The Mountain City Songsters play kids music aimed squarely at adults. Our experiential show consists of edgy bluegrass, interactive songs, subliminal messages, and irreverent lyrics that didn’t make it on the kids album. These two singer-songwriters met in pre-school when Justin noticed that Joe was the only other four-year-old besides him that had a beard. They grew up in Denver, CO and have played music together since their peach fuzz days. Their music careers began after they graduated high school, moved into a one room log cabin in Wyoming, and joined a house bluegrass band for a mountaintop restaurant. From there, they formed the world’s first ever 501(c)(3) nonprofit music band. They played under the name The Medicinal Strings and toured the mid-west playing over 130 free shows at homeless shelters and soup lines. Since then, Joe and Justin have been living in Minneapolis and exploring their main interest, participatory culture. They experiment with the interactive arts through their real kids band called The Okee Dokee Brothers, Community Sing Outs with The Medicinal Strings, and now by performing kids music for adults as The Mountain City Songsters! -
