Mountain Grip is a four piece rock band based out of Bozeman, Montana that has been making the dance floor hot with their tasteful blend of beautiful and obscure rock, reggae and rockabilly for over a year. The band draws musical influence from such songwriting masters as Jerry Garcia, Bob Marley, Neil Young, and many bluegrass heroes.
Mountain Grips two guitarists and dueling band leaders Eli Madden and Bretton Vredevoogd met by sheer luck in the winter of 2007 on the snow covered slopes of southwest Montana. Since their first gig at the base of Bridger Bowl, the band has carefully transformed from an acoustic duo, to an all out electric jam band experience.
Eli Madden has been playing guitar and singing songs for more than 15 years in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Mountain life has influenced and can be heard clearly in his original music. Bretton Vredevoogd has been playing guitar and writing songs since his early teens and draws strongly from his formal jazz guitar training. Both songwriters are able to pump out catchy jam based songs, as well as use great discretion when choosing songs to cover.
Bretton and Eli are backed by the rhythm section of Sam Roche on drums and the bass of Mark Vaughn. Sam Roche has been composing and performing music of a variety of styles for the past several years. His appreciation for Funk, Jazz and R&B is apparent in his rhythms. Mark Vaughn is a young accomplished bassist that has been playing with many bands in the Bozeman area for the last three years.
Mountain Grip has gained a commited fan base primarily through word of mouth. Averaging five gigs a month, including a bi-monthly appearance at the Madison River Brewing Company, the band constantly is learning new songs and switching up set lists to keep it interesting. The group finished an album of material entitled "The Slightly Never Ending Foothills" and promo copies are available by request.
Here is Issue #26 of BozemanShows. com; this one runs from Monday, July 27th through August 3rd. Check out the blog for High-Res Jpegs that you can download and print.
