| General | hiking mountains, camping, watching my kids grow up, cooking, picking mushrooms, reading, writing, watching good movies, listening to music | | Music | My all time favorite music is Jalan Jalan, a group from the Polynesian island of Bali. They play some super mellow new age music that I can listen to all day. I like a lot of new age, especially those that lean more towards the Oriental sounds. Electronica/Techno in most of its various forms, especially ambient and trance. Be cool and check out DJ NAIV sometime. Various composers of the classical stock plus newer ones such as Howard Shore, and Nobuo Uemasta. Celtic music is simply beautiful. Other than that I can listen to most any other music (and some times even enjoy it), with the exception of modern alternative, which has just become mainstream garbage, and new country which just makes me sick. | | Movies | Lord of the Rings, Matrix, The Last Samurai, Sense and Sensibility, the complete works of Hayao Miyazaki, and a bevy of series: Pride and Prejudice, Horatio Hornblower, Middlemarch, Jeeves and Wooster, Kino's Journey, Spiral, Hello Kitty. Oh, and a decent Dickens translation if I can get me mitts on it. | | Television | I sold my television, but before that liberating experience, I liked the Food Network and the Travel Channel. | | Books | Anything Tolkien. My personal favorites: Lord of the Rings (DUH), The Silmarillion Unfinished Tales, Lays of Beleriand, and the Adventures of Tom Bombadil.
C.S. Lewis: Chronicles of Narnia, Mere Christianity, the Problem of Pain.
Dickens: although these are the only ones that I have read to date, they are some of my favorites: David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, and Oliver Twist.
Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, and Mansfield Park.
Gearge Elliot: Middlemarch and Silas Marner.
H.G. Wells: Time Machine, War of the Worlds, Island of Dr, Moreau, Invisible Man, Food of the Gods, In the Days of the Comet.
Other books and Authors:Dragonlance Chronicles, George R.R. Martin, Chronicles of Prydain, books on physics, astronomy, history, biographies, and cookbooks. | | Heroes | Tolkien, Gene Roddenbery, Jose Conseco back in the day, and all those annonymous NES programmers that filled my youth with so many 8-bit memories. |

About me:

First and Foremost I am a family man. I have four wonderful children, and a wife who makes me feel blessed every day. I like things laid back. My views on religion are my own, non-conformist and not in the mainstream, only shared if one is truly interested. The things that I love to do are Hiking, mushroom hunting, reading, writing (when I can actually work up the motivation), cooking, watching good movies, and hanging out with friends.Oh yeah, and I don a black chef coat with my name on to earn my living.

Who I'd like to meet:
People who are on (or at least close to) the same wave-length as me.
Although on the other side of the coin, there are very few people who I do not get along with. Not friends in the true sense of the word, but friends in the loose sense.
