Sounds Like
“Their sound is a brutal a fusion of crust core, hardcore and mutant ska/reggae fused with a lightning paced delivery and suitably manic vocal technique. There’s a raging intensity to the Mouth Sewn Shut experience, an awesome wall of sound punctuated by sudden tempo changes and driven by an incredibly vigorous rhythm section. Their own take on ska and reggae sees Mouth Sewn Shut adding their hyper energetic approach to the medium, supplementing it with a harder core and dirtier edge. There’s a strongly political angle running through the album with songs attacking the evils of war, capitalism, the work ethic and even a coming apocalypse, although it rarely, if ever, gets preachy or holier than thou. Closing the album with a highpoint, the infectious Finally Came Down To Bombs sets the seal on a forceful and convincing collection of cutting edge DIY punk.” (Sean McGhee) PUNK & OI IN THE UK! ...... "12 tracks of ram-charging, two-fingers-in-the-air speed-by-so-fast PUNK from Boston! Tough, abrupt no-nonsense hardcore with barking vocals, proficient non-stop-on-a-dime delivery, and awesome political lyrics" (KS) MAXIMUM ROCK'N'ROLL 279 ...... "This is an awesome album, with great artwork too! This is 2 of the longstanding members Toxic Narcotic! TN themselves have for 15 years been putting out consistently great, intelligent and original hardcore punk, and Mouth Sewn Shut are in that same mould, very much the brutal and familiar sound of TN in the vocals and guitar (as you’d expect) but also thrown in is heavy ska/reggae elements in some songs…. I can’t do this justice, cause it’s all done tight as fuck too. One of the best things I’ve reviewed this year! (Steve)RIPPING THRASH (UK) ...... "Starting as straight forward crust, this CD bounces back & forth with reggae/ska bits that create a unique combo. It's almost like a hostile ska-punk hybrid, with even the slow parts still sounding raw like a fresh picked scab!" (Dave) SLUG & LETTUCE 88 ...... "Say what? Doom-laden reggae? Ska with crust overtones? From a purely visual standpoint, it was pretty easy to write this band off, or at least assume I knew exactly what I was getting. You know: brutal name in scary font. Dead bird on cover. Skull on back cover. LP version on Profane Existence, etcetera. This is me generalizing, right? The jaded reviewer who’s heard it all. Then I put the CD in the player and for a few minutes I’m hearing pretty much what I expected. Then the third song, “World War 3 Is Coming” hits my ears and… they’re playing reggae. Yes its filtered through back patches and a big love for Amebix. Yes the guys still belting his guts out. Yes their pedals are still in the red. But I’ll be goddamned if they’re not playing a weird reggae/ska/crust amalgamation on at least half of this record. And I’m not talking Citizen Fish “clean guitars with horns” either – this stuff’s ugly. It’s dark, dense, and simultaneously manages to be toe-tapping and mired neck-deep in gloom. Lyrics are despondent and generally pretty fucking hopeless. So if you want to measure a bands success by radio play and online downloads this wont do much for you. But if you want to measure success by the fact that they’ve consistently engaged the listener and kept shit really interesting throughout fourteen songs, the Mouth Sewn Shut is coming out on top!" When are you guys touring? I wanna catch you on the East Coast as many times as I can from NYC
I love how you didn't use the same versions that were on your other 7" releases on the new record. I like hearing different versions of songs. I just wish there could have been more new songs. Either way, I still love it!
