Moutique Agency was conceived the way most great ventures are: through love, stamina, hardship, and adaptation. Had Nadin Brendel loved her bands any less, Moutique would not be the efficient, inspired agency that it is today. It is through the passion for music and the desire to build career bands that Moutique finds its foundation; but it is because of Brendel’s innovative mind and careful hands that Moutique is constantly evolving and adapting to the trials and demands of the music industry.
In 2004, Nadin Brendel founded the booking agency Mikrokultur with then-partner, Daniel Kempf, with the pure intention of bringing their favorite bands to Europe. Attempting to navigate the European musical landscape was sometimes overwhelming, but through hard work and personal connections to their artists, Mikrokultur managed to thrive and garner a LEA nomination for ‘Talent Development’. Mikrokultur booked the first shows for bands like the Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, Broken Social Scene, Stars and many more before some of them even had a European release. In fact, Mikrokultur connected quite a few artists with their future European record labels so they could tour Europe. They then grew from simply booking bands in Germany to representing more and more artists all over Europe.
As the scope of business and the artists’ careers grew, Mikrokultur needed to adapt and evolve. After an amicable split of the original partnership in the fall of 2008, Brendel wanted to redesign and revamp Mikrokultur to include more services for her artists. She started to actively pursue a more capable business model, experimenting in different partnerships to fully realize the potential of her agency and artists' goals.
Out of this came the newly dubbed, Moutique Agency. Moutique differs from Mikrokultur because of the breadth and depth of experience in tour booking, management, production, and preproduction. Mikrokultur was a multi-faceted company – often booking tours and then managing the tours to make sure their work did not get undone by incompetent staffing – but Moutique is poised to take those past experiences to the next level. Involving herself in all levels of her artists’ careers has made Nadin Brendel indispensable to her bands. She is always out supporting the Moutique roster, taking photos, making sure that the shows run in a way that benefit both promoter and artist. There is so much attention paid to detail, thanks to Brendel’s passion for good business and the fact that she is, well, German. Germans love their organization and regiments as much as their Bratwurst. And Brendel is unashamed of that love.
