Mounton Fou is a five piece pop band; the 2 brothers Harm & Peter-Paul,
sister Linda, Jankees and Milco.
Harm and Jankees have got their roots in punkrock. They have both played
in different bands before e.g. Go Ape. But felt there were too many
limitations in this genre. Harm and Jankees had ideas for something new
and asked Harm brother Peter Paul to join them.
Linda who had made music with Harm before joined this trio and Mouton
Fou was a fact. The four met up regularly in the practice room in
Helenaveen. Old ideas got put to practice and new songs where written.
Within no-time there were enough songs for their first gigs.
They did still need a name and all thought being eccentric was very
important. They didn’t want to follow the mass like a sheep does and
came up with the name Mouton Fou (French for Mad Sheep)
To present themselves they needed a demo. ‘A demo? Why not a complete
cd?’ they asked themselves. They changed their practice room into a
studio and with some help from studio aRe U Recordings they recorded
their first cd.
To widden their musical horizon Emiel Verhaegh joined as fifth member of
the band. He had already been involved in recording Mouton Fou’s first CD.
A month after the release of their first CD, Mr. Moustache, they already
had enough new songs for a second album. On this album the songs are better worked out and there are more wind-sections, in comparison with their first album. The drums and the mixing are done in studio aRe U Recordings and the rest is recorded in all peace at studio 2 by the band.
In 2007 Harm went to the Rockacademy in Tilburg, where he met drummer Milco Verbeek. In November of that year Milco joined the band, so Peter-Paul could play his own instrument, the guitar.
Also Rockacademy-keyboardplayer Merijn den Boer played a lot with Mouton Fou during the following months, and in May 2008 Mouton Fou went onstage with seven musicians. Unfortunately, after this show, Emiel decided to leave the band.
Right now, the band is again working out a range of new songs. Mouton Fou can be back onstage anytime now!
