Mo Vain (Mikko Vainionpaa) was born in 1971 in Vahakyro Western Finland. He has loved rhythm music right from the beginning. His favourite album (in C cassette format) while in cradle was Mungo Jerry’s Electronically Tested. The cassette used to keep him quiet. Baby Jump and I Just Wanna Make Love to You are still among his favourites. These songs represent the heaviness Mikko finds typical for him. This path led to Black Sabbath, punk, metal/hard rock and contemporary heavier styles. The next love was dance music. Before school age, Mikko loved especially Hot Chocolate. That path led into synth pop (Human League, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran), early house and electronic music which has had an influence on Mikko’s music since the mid 90’s . The third path, melody, evolved gradually, in the beginning being of less importance and at present, being as important as the other two typical elements. Mikko likes rhythmical and catchy melodies and harmonies. He usually creates grooves first, and then builds his harmonies or the chordal structures before “finding” the melodies.
Mikko started playing bass guitar when he was 16, guitar in early 20’s and finally the computer music studio in the mid 20’s. He has sung (badly) all of his age. He started the more intensive period of music making in 2006 and has since then worked daily with his music.
After the high school Mikko went to University of Helsinki to study theology and philosophy. When he found that he would be more happy in business life than as a employee of the church, he moved to Umea (Sweden) to study business administration and psychology. Mikko worked for some years in business world before stepping in to the music. His true love(r).
