Who I'd like to meet:

DSCF0199MOVE STILL**** "Move" is a compelling look at renowned choreographer's Kevin Iega Jeff and Gary Abbott and their inspiring Chicago based Deeply Rooted Dance Theater. In 1982 Iega Jeff created the grass roots dance company "Jubilation!" whose work centered on African American and contemporary traditions of dance. "Jubilation!" was an instant sensation that propelled the young company on national and international tours and recognition. At the height of their success, "Jubilation!" was devastated by illness. In 1995, Jeff together with Abbott formed "DRDP" to continue their mission to use the arts as a basis for empowering people and self-actualization.

This Chicago-based company moves in a way that goes way beyond sheer artistry . . . they clearly are propelled by matters both social and spiritual. So when they dance they bring added intensity and meaning to the work." - Chicago Sun-Times

Move Winston StillDirector's Statement: "The moment I met Kevin Iega Jeff and Gary Abbott I knew they would be great documentary subjects. One is light hearted and full of heart the other intense and purposeful, together they create a dynamic team. Iega is a force of nature at nearly seven feet and his intensity and strength of character is inspiring. He is a visionary and his ideas about life and dance are progressive and inclusive. It interested me how he went from an exclusively African American company "Jubilation!" in the 80's and in the 90's was criticized by African Americans for having whites in his company. Abbott on the other hand creates a perfect counter balance. He's an artist who found himself along the way and is uplifting and downright fun to be around! Both choreographers are very interested in people and community and evolving rather than staying still and I feel this is an important message for all people." Theodore CollatosDR6
