About me: Between Buffalo, New York and New York City lies the New York State Movie Theatre Corridor.
On October 19, 1896, Mitchell Mark opened Vitascope Hall -- the world's first purpose-built motion picture theatre -- in Buffalo, New York. Barely 18 years later, on April 11, 1914, Mark opened The Mark-Strand Theater the world's first million dollar movie palace in New York City.
Between those two sites, along the route of the Erie Canal, Amtrak, and the New York State Thruway are an extraordinary number of surviving historic motion picture theatres.
Promoted by The Buffalo International Film Festival (a 501c3 not-for-profit charity), the New York State Movie Theatre Corridor is a spectacular international tourist destination with a treasure trove of classic theatres to visit and enjoy over and over again.
